Abstract

The emission spectrum of a two-level atom in a harmonic trap is studied. It is shown that atomic motion do not affect the atomic spectrum phase sensitivity when there is no correlation between atomic mass center motion and the field. With the increase of the average energy of atomic center motion, the peaks move towards each other, their heights change with the state of the field and atomic motion. When there is correlation between atomic mass center motion and the field, the atomic spectrum becomes insensitive to the relative phase between the field and the atomic dipole. Under certain conditions, there are fewer peaks, and they become higher and narrower.

Emission spectrum of a harmonically trapped Λ-type three-level atom

郭红, 汤佩

We theoretically investigate the emission spectrum for a Λ-type three-level atom trapped in the node of a standing wave. We show that the atomic center-of-mass motion not only directly affects the peak number, peak position, and peak height in the atomic emission spectrum, but also influences the effects of the cavity field and the atomic initial state on atomic emission spectrum.

The influence of mass center motion on -type three-level atom dynamics

Hu Xiao-Ping, Guo Hong, 华中师范大学物理科学与技术学院,武汉 430079

The system of a single-mode field interacting with a -type three-level atom in a harmonic trap is investigated. The linear entropy of the field, the atomic internal states and the atomic mass center motion are explored. It is shown that the atomic mass center motion not only can affect the linear entropy of the field and the atomic internal states, but also effectively changes their relationship.

Phase sensitivity in atom-field interaction via coherent superposition

Khalid Zaheer, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

Considering a system consisting of a two-level atom, initially prepared in a coherent superposition of upper and lower levels, interacting with a coherent state of the field, we show that the dynamics of the atom as well as the spectrum of the field are sensitive to the relative phase between the atomic dipole and the cavity field. It is shown that, for a certain choice of this phase, ``coherent trapping'' occurs in two-level atoms. In the case of spectra, for the same choice of the phase, instead of a three-peaked symmetric spectrum, we have an asymmetric two-peaked spectrum.

Emission Spectra of a Moving Atom in an Electromagnetic Field

Jingtao Zhang, Feng Xun-Li, Xu Zhi-Zhan

The emission spectra of a two-level atom moving in an electromagnetic field are studied. We find that there is a shift in the peak position and that each peak splits into double peaks. The shift is due to the detuning induced by the atomic motion, and the splitting is caused by the atomic energy change due to the exchange of photons.

Emission spectrum of a harmonically trapped two-level atom

Hong Mei Guo, Zhao Li-Yan

We investigated theoretically the emission spectrum for a harmonically trapped two-level atom; our study is not limited in Lamb-Dicke approximation. We have shown that the effects of the atomic motion on the emission spectrum are dependent on the initial state of the system, the Lamb-Dicke parameter $\ensuremath{\eta}$, and the detuning parameter.
