Quantum Dissonance as an Indicator of Quantum Phase Transition in the XXZ Chain

Abstract

We investigate the behavior of quantum dissonance in the anti-ferromagnetic XXZ spin S = 1/2 chain, which exhibits a quantum phase transition. Based on a unified view of quantum and classical correlations, quantum dissonance is analytically calculated and is compared with entanglement, discord, and classical correlations for the ground state of the system. It is found that the nearest-neighbor quantum dissonance achieves an extremum and exhibits the sharpest change at the critical point. Therefore, quantum dissonance may serve as a more efficient indicator of quantum phase transitions in the XXZ spin chain.

Quantum correlations and coherence in spin-1 Heisenberg chains

André Luiz Malvezzi, Göktuğ Karpat, Barış Çakmak +3 more

We explore quantum and classical correlations along with coherence in the ground states of spin-1 Heisenberg chains, namely the one-dimensional XXZ model and the one-dimensional bilinear biquadratic model, with the techniques of density matrix renormalization group theory. Exploiting the tools of quantum information theory, that is, by studying quantum discord, quantum mutual information, and three recently introduced coherence measures in the reduced density matrix of two nearest neighbor spins in the bulk, we investigate the quantum phase transitions and special symmetry points in these models. We point out the relative strengths and weaknesses of correlation and coherence measures as figures of merit to witness the quantum phase transitions and symmetry points in the considered spin-1 Heisenberg chains. In particular, we demonstrate that, as none of the studied measures can detect the infinite-order Kosterlitz-Thouless transition in the XXZ model, they appear to be able to signal the existence of the same type of transition in the biliear biquadratic model. However, we argue that what is actually detected by the measures here is the SU(3) symmetry point of the model rather than the infinite-order quantum phase transition. Moreover, we show in the XXZ model that examining even single site coherence can be sufficient to spotlight the second-order phase transition and the SU(2) symmetry point.

Quantum correlations in critical XXZ system and LMG model

Biao‐Liang Ye, Bo Li, Xianqing Li‐Jost +1 more

We investigate the quantum phase transitions for the [Formula: see text] spin-1/2 chains via the quantum correlations between the nearest and next-to-nearest neighbor spins characterized by negativity, information deficit, trace distance discord and local quantum uncertainty. It is shown that all these correlations exhibit the quantum phase transitions at [Formula: see text]. However, only information deficit and local quantum uncertainty can demonstrate quantum phase transitions at [Formula: see text]. The analytical and numerical behaviors of the quantum correlations for the [Formula: see text] system are presented. We also consider quantum correlations in the Hartree–Fock ground state of the Lipkin–Meshkov–Glick (LMG) model.

Quantum and Classical Correlations in Isotropic XY Chain with Three-Site Interaction

Ben‐Qiong Liu, Bin Shao, Jian Zou

The quantum phase transition in the isotropic XY chain with three-site interaction has been studied by calculating the quantum discord, classical correlation, and concurrence measuring entanglement. It is found that the quantum discord is a better choice than concurrence to signal the presence of the quantum phase transition in this model, since that for next-nearest neighbor spins the derivative of the quantum discord still exhibits singularity at the critical point while there is no more entanglement.

Quantum Correlations in Spin Chains at Finite Temperatures and Quantum Phase Transitions

T. Werlang, Christian Trippe, G A P Ribeiro +1 more

We compute the quantum correlation [quantum discord (QD)] and the entanglement (EOF) between nearest-neighbor qubits (spin-1/2) in an infinite chain described by the Heisenberg model (XXZ Hamiltonian) at finite temperatures. The chain is in the thermodynamic limit and thermalized with a reservoir at temperature T (canonical ensemble). We show that QD, in contrast to EOF and other thermodynamic quantities, spotlight the critical points associated with quantum phase transitions (QPT) for this model even at finite T. This remarkable property of QD may have important implications for experimental characterization of QPTs when one is unable to reach temperatures below which a QPT can be seen.

Multipartite entanglement from matrix-product states and a quantum phase transition

Guo-Qing Zhang, Wei Wu, Jing‐Bo Xu

We investigate multipartite entanglement and a quantum phase transition for spin chain systems by making use of the density-matrix renormalization-group method in the form of matrix-product states. It is found that multipartite entanglement changes dramatically near the critical region and the residual-to-global entanglement ratio reaches its maximum at the critical point of the quantum phase transition. These results indicate that multipartite entanglement as well as the residual-to-global entanglement ratio can serve as good indicators to detect a quantum phase transition. We also demonstrate a linear relation between the next-nearest-neighbor interaction strength and the critical magnetic field for an $XYZ$ spin chain by using multipartite entanglement and quantum coherence.

Role of an information-theoretic measure of quantum correlation in a dynamical phase transition of entanglement

Himadri Shekhar Dhar, Rupamanjari Ghosh, Aditi Sen +1 more

The nearest-neighbor entanglement of the evolved state of an asymmetric quantum XY spin chain, in a transverse time-dependent field, exhibits criticalities (dynamical phase transitions) as the initial field parameter is varied at a given fixed time. After a discussion of the dynamical phase transition, we investigate the extent to which the role of an information-theoretic quantum correlation measure, called quantum discord, can be used to understand the entanglement dynamics in this spin model. We show that quantum discord can be associated with the collapse and revival of nearest-neighbor entanglement exhibited in the critical behavior. This behavior of quantum discord leads to the broader question of whether certain classes of measures of nonclassical correlation can help to understand the non-generic features of entanglement in a given system.
