Abstract

A large number of Ti atoms populated mainly on the ground state (a3F2) and metastable states (a3F3,4) were produced by UV-laser (259-300 nm) photodissociation of TiCl4. Many stimulated Raman scattering lines and stimulated radiations of Ti atoms were observed by pumping Ti atoms on the a3F2,3,4 states via nearly resonant transitions. All the lines observed were assigned. The pulse duration and timeresolved spectrum of SRS of Ti atoms shows the photolysis of TiCl4 to Ti atom was very fast, and the time estimated for it was less than Ins.

STIMULATED RAMAN-SCATTERING AND RESONANT LASER-RADIATION IN PHOTODISSOCIATED LEAD ATOMS

J Zhang, By Cheng, Dz Zhang +3 more

Strong stimulated radiation at wavelengths 3740 A was observed when PbCl 2 molecules were photodissociated by a 2660 A UV laser. Based on spectral characteristics and Pb energy level structure, this radiation was judged to be resonant laser radiation and stimulated Raman scattering due to the populated 6p 2 3 P 2 metastable Pb atoms from photodissociated PbCl 2 molecules. A theoretical model was developed to describe the whole process, and experimentally fitted to determine the photodissociation coefficient of the metastable Pb atoms from dissociated PbCl 2 by 2660 A laser

Stimulated Raman scattering and resonant laser radiation in photodissociated Pb

J Zhang

Strong stimulated radiations at wavelengths 3740 A have been observed when PbCl2 molecules are photodissociated by 2660 A ultraviolet laser. Dependences of these radiations on the pump laser intensity and PbCl2 molecular density have been studied experimentally. A theoretical model to describe these processes is put forward. These two raditions are identified as resonant laser radiation and stimulated Raman scattering originated from bhe population of the metastable level 6p23P2 of atomic Pb, which is produced by two-photon dissociation of PbCl2. When molecular density of PbCl3 is 6.21×1016cm-3, the maximum populations on the two metastable levels, 6p23 P2 and 6p21D2, of atomic Pb are almost same, which equals 2.0×1016cm-3.

Experimental study on stimulated Raman scattering originated from metastable population of atomic Pb

Under excitation of 355nm or 266nm UV radiation some strong emissions have been observed in PbI 2 vapor. Analysis shows that they are 1st, 2nd order Stokes and 1st anti-Stokes components of 355nm laser and 1st order Stokes and anti-Stokes components of 266nm laser. The initial states of Raman transition are 6p 2 3 P 1 and 6p 2 3 P 2 metastable states of atomic Pb, respectively. The population on it is created by photodissociation of PbI 2 . The dependences of Raman components on pump power, PbI 2 density and pressure of buffer gas are investigated experimentally.

Anti-Stokes Raman Lasers

J. C. White, D. Henderson

This paper reports what we believe to be the first observations of stimulated, anti-Stokes Raman laser emission. A metastable Tl*(6p 2po3/2) population inversion was created by selective photodissociation of TlCl, and Raman scattering using 532 nm and 355 nm pump lasers resulted in stimulated emission at 376 nm and 278 nm, respectively. Likewise, inverted I*(5p5 2Po1/2) atoms have been used as a Raman medium; and with a 206 nm pumping source, we have generated tunable VUV radiation at 178 nm.

Anti-Stokes Raman laser

J. C. White, Don O. Henderson

This paper reports what we believe to be the first observation of a stimulated nonresonant anti-Stokes Raman laser. Thallium vapor which was inverted by selective photodissociation of TICI was used as the Raman medium. Using the second (532-nm) and third (355-nm) harmonics of a Nd:YAG laser as pump sources, stimulated anti-Stokes emission from the TI ( 6 p 2 P 3 / 2 0 ) to the TI ( 6 p 2 P 1 / 2 0 ) state was observed at 376 and 278 nm, respectively.

Anti-Stokes Raman laser

J. C. White, Don O. Henderson

The first observation of nonresonant, stimulated anti-Stokes Raman emission is reported. A metastable $\mathrm{Tl}(6p^{2}P_{\frac{3}{2}}^{o})$ inversion is created by selective photodissociation of TlCl. Raman scattering from the Tl metastable state to ground using 532- and 355-nm pump lasers resulted in stimulated emission at 376 and 278 nm, respectively. Conversion efficiencies up to 10% are reported.
