Frequency stabilization of a single-photon source based on spontaneous parametric down-conversion by an external electric field

D O Akat’ev, А. А. Калачев

In this paper, we examine a method of controlling the spectrum of spontaneous parametric down-conversion in crystals with quadratic nonlinearity by an external homogeneous electric field via the Pockels effect, and discuss the possibility of stabilizing the carrier frequency of the corresponding single-photon source based on backward-wave spontaneous parametric down-conversion.

Control of the frequency spectrum of a biphoton field due to the electro-optical effect

Konstantin G. Katamadze, Anna V. Paterova, Elena G. Yakimova +2 more

A method for controlling the spectrum of spontaneous parametric down-conversion has been implemented. This method is based on the application of the gradient of an electrostatic field to a nonlinear crystal where down-conversion occurs. Due to the electro-optical effect, i.e., the dependence of the refractive indices on the applied field, the phase-matching conditions are different along the length of the crystal and, as a result, the spectrum of the emitted biphoton field is modified.

We theoretically show that photonic structures can be used to control the X-ray spectrum generated through spontaneous parametric down-conversion. As an example, we show how 1D and 3D photonic crystals can enable enhanced X-ray emission.

Control of the spectrum of the biphoton field

Konstantin G. Katamadze, S. P. Kulik

The main methods for controlling the biphoton field, as well as the problems for which the width and the shape of the spectrum of the biphoton field are of decisive importance, are discussed. The method for controlling the spectrum of the spontaneous parametric downconversion of light based on the spatial modulation of the refractive indices of a nonlinear crystal in which the generation of biphotons has been analyzed. Modulation is due to the thermo-optic and electro-optic effects.

Increased polarization-entangled photon flux via thinner crystals

P. S. K. Lee, Martin P. van Exter, J.P. Woerdraan

We demonstrate experimentally that the production of polarization-entangled photons via type-II spontaneous parametric down-conversion is higher for thin nonlinear crystals than for thicker ones, basically because thinner crystals generate a broader spectrum.
