Simulation analysis of security performance of DPSKOCDMA network via virtual user scheme

Abstract

A novel technique to enhance the security of an optical code division multipleaccess (OCDMA) system against eavesdropping is proposed. It has been observed that whena single user is active in the network, an eavesdropper can easily sift the data beingtransmitted without decoding. To increase the security, a virtual user scheme is proposed andsimulated on a differential phase shift keying (DPSK) OCDMA system. By using the virtualuser scheme, the security of the DPSK-OCDMA system can be effectively improved and themultiple access interference, which is generally considered to be a limitation of the OCDMAsystem, is used to increase the confidentiality of the system.

Isolated user security enhancement in optical code division multiple access network against eavesdropping

Vishav Jyoti, Rajinder Singh Kaler

A novel virtual user system is modeled for enhancing the security of an optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) network. Although the OCDMA system implementing code shift keying (CSK) is secure against a conventional power detector, it is susceptible to differential eavesdropping. An analytical framework is developed for the CSK-OCDMA system to show eavesdropper's code interception performance for a single transmitting user in the presence of a virtual user. It is shown that the eavesdropper's probability of correct bit interception decreases from 7.1×10 −1 to 1.85×10 −5 with the inclusion of the virtual user. Furthermore, the results confirm that the proposed virtual user scheme increases the confidentiality of the CSK-OCDMA system and outperforms the conventional OCDMA scheme in terms of security.

Novel virtual user scheme to increase data confidentiality against eavesdropping in OCDMA network

Vishav Jyoti, Rajinder Singh Kaler

We propose a novel technique to increase the confidentiality of an optical code division multiple access (OCDMA) system. A virtual user technique is analyzed and implemented to make an OCDMA system secure. Using this technique, an eavesdropper will never find an isolated authorized user's signal. When authorized users and virtual users transmit data synchronously and asynchronously, network security increases by 25% and 37.5%, respectively.

Experimental investigation on security of temporal phase coding OCDMA system with code-shift keying and differential phase-shift keying

Bo Dai, Zhensen Gao, Xu Wang +2 more

We experimentally demonstrate security vulnerability in the temporal phase coding single-user DPSK- and CSK-OCDMA systems with a DPSK demodulator. In the systems without proper decoding, error free BER performance and clear open eye diagrams indicate the eavesdropping possibility for both systems. We also discuss the principle of DPSK demodulation attack.

Experimental Investigation on Security of Temporal Phase Coding OCDMA System with Code-Shift Keying and Differential Phase-Shift Keying

We experimentally demonstrate the security vulnerability in the temporal phase coding single-user differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) and code-shift keying (CSK) OCDMA systems with a DPSK demodulator. In the experiment, we build up the 2.5Gbit/s DPSK- and CSK-OCDMA systems. In the systems, we use two 31-chip 640 Gchip/s superstructured fiber Bragg grating encoders for the signal encoding. In the receiving side, we remove the decoders and utilize the DPSK demodulator to detect the encoded signals directly. We successfully achieve the error-free BER performance and obtaine the clear open eye diagrams using the detection without the proper decoding. It indicates the existence of the eavesdropping vulnerability in the both systems. Furthermore, we also discuss the principle of DPSK demodulation attack.

Design and simulation of a novel phase-encoded OCDMA system

Wu Pan, Jing Qiao, Yang Jing

The security of optical code division multi-access (OCDMA) system was analyzed, and the results indicate the hidden trouble of security. A scheme of multi-codes to be transmitted single-user information has been proposed, and single-user eavesdropping model has been simulated. The soft platform of system simulation was built by optisystem3.0 and MATLAB. The simulation analysis of the system has been accomplished on the soft platform. The brute-force searching and a code interception have been studied. The simulation results have shown that this system has better security.
