Contracting Lie algebras and generalized coherent states

Abstract

By adopting the framework elaborated by A.M. Perelomov [1] we define and determine the generalized coherent state contraction associated with the contraction of the angular momentum algebra to that of the harmonic oscillator. It is shown that the contraction as well as the expansion solutions for these Lie algebras [2] [3] straight forwardly emerge by using their coherent state representations.

Harmonic Oscillator Coherent States from the Standpoint of Orbit Theory

Alexander V. Shapovalov, Alexander Igorevich Breev

We study the known coherent states of a quantum harmonic oscillator from the standpoint of the originally developed noncommutative integration method for linear partial differential equations. The application of the method is based on the symmetry properties of the Schrödinger equation and on the orbit geometry of the coadjoint representation of Lie groups. We have shown that analogs of coherent states constructed by the noncommutative integration can be expressed in terms of the solution to a system of differential equations on the Lie group of the oscillatory Lie algebra. The solutions constructed are directly related to irreducible representation of the Lie algebra on the Hilbert space functions on the Lagrangian submanifold to the orbit of the coadjoint representation.

Spin Number Coherent States and the Problem of Two Coupled Oscillators*

D. Ojeda-Guillén, R. D. Mota, V. D. Granados

Abstract From the definition of the standard Perelomov coherent states we introduce the Perelomov number coherent states for any su(2) Lie algebra. With the displacement operator we apply a similarity transformation to the su(2) generators and construct a new set of operators which also close the su(2) Lie algebra, being the Perelomov number coherent states the new basis for its unitary irreducible representation. We apply our results to obtain the energy spectrum, the eigenstates and the partition function of two coupled oscillators. We show that the eigenstates of two coupled oscillators are the SU(2) Perelomov number coherent states of the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator with an appropriate choice of the coherent state parameters.

Coherent States for Generalized Laguerre Functions

Jellal, A

We explicitly construct a Hamiltonian whose exact eigenfunctions are the generalized Laguerre functions. Moreover, we present the related raising and lowering operators. We investigate the corresponding coherent states by adopting three different methods which are due to $(i)$ Barut-Girardello, $(ii)$ Gazeau-Klauder and $(iii)$ Perelomov associated to Lie algebra $su(1,1)$. Resolution of unity and overlapping properties are examined in each method.

Coherent states for the harmonic series irreducible representations of U(p,q). I. Unitary operator coherent states

C. Quesne

Unitary operator coherent states, as defined by Klauder (1963), Perelomov (1972) and Gilmore (1974), are considered for the harmonic series irreducible representations of U(p,q). Various properties of these states are reviewed, including their reproducing kernel and measure explicit forms, as well as the representation they lead to for the U(p,q) generators. Starting from a contraction of the su(p,q) Lie algebra, both Dyson and Holstein-Primakoff boson realisations of u(p,q) are obtained in terms of pq pairs of boson creation, annihilation operators and of the generators of a U(p)*U(q) intrinsic group. Such boson realisations are applied to determine the matrix elements of the U(p,q) generators between discrete bases classified according to the chain U(p,q) contains/implies U(p)*U(q). Finally, the isomorphism between so(4,2) and su(2,2) is employed to derive the corresponding properties of the SO(4,2) unitary operator coherent states for application in atomic physics.

Atomic Coherent States in Quantum Optics

F. T. Arecchi, E. Courtens, Robert Gilmore +1 more

For the description of an assembly of two-level atoms, atomic coherent states can be defined which have properties analogous to those of the field coherent states. The analogy is not fortuitous, but is shown to be related to the group contraction of exponential operators based on the angular momentum algebra to exponential operators based on the harmonic-oscillator algebra. The derivation of the properties of the atomic coherent states is made easier by the use of a powerful disentangling theorem for exponential angular momentum operators. A complete labeling of the atomic states is developed and many of their properties are studied. In particular it is shown that the atomic coherent states are the quantum analogs of classical dipoles, and that they can be produced by classical fields.
