On (k=3/4) coherent states for the harmonic oscillator

Abstract

A new construction of Perelomov's generalised coherent states (1986) is considered for one-dimensional harmonic oscillators admitting the Heisenberg-Weyl group as invariance Lie group. Exploiting the Niederer maximal kinematical invariance group (1973) for such physical systems, the author deduce further characteristics on the Heisenberg states through the use of the fundamental Perelomov state mod k, k) with k=3/4. The author explicitly gets new normalisation factor and measure for the Heisenberg generalised coherent states. The real Lie algebras so(2, 1) Square Operator h(2), so(2, 1) and h(2) play a prominent role in this study.

On generalized coherent states with maximal symmetry for the harmonic oscillator

J. Beckers, N. Debergh

Generalized coherent states for the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator with maximal symmetry, i.e., admitting the semidirect sum so(2,1) ⧠ h(2) as the largest invariance Lie algebra pointed out by Niederer are constructed. The normalization of such states as well as their completeness property are determined and discussed. They are also analyzed in the subcontexts of the so(2,1) algebra and of the Heisenberg h(2) algebra. General considerations on Heisenberg relations, on minimal dispersions, and on quantum mechanical entropies are presented in connection with the uncertainty principle.

Introduction to Coherent States

Didier Robert, Monique Combescure

In this Chapter we study the Weyl–Heisenberg group in the Schrödinger representation in arbitrary dimension n. One shows that it operates in the Hilbert space of quantum states (and on quantum operators) as a phase-space translation. Then applying it to a Schwartz class state of arbitrary profile we get a set of generalized coherent states. When we apply the Weyl–Heisenberg translation operator to the ground state of the n-dimensional Harmonic Oscillator, one gets the standard coherent states introduced by Schrödinger [233] (Naturwissenshaften 14:664–666, 1926) in the early days of quantum mechanics (1926). Later the coherent states have been extensively studied by Glauber [118, 119] (Phys. Rev. 131:2766–2788, 1963; Phys. Rev. 130:2529–2539, 1963) for the purpose of quantum optics and it seems that their name comes back to this work. The standard coherent states have been generalized by Perelomov [208] (Generalised Coherent States and Their Applications, 1986) to more general Lie groups than the Weyl–Heisenberg group. We also introduce the usual creation and annihilation operators in dimension n which are very convenient for the study of coherent states. We show that coherent states constitute a non-orthogonal over-complete system which yields a resolution of the identity operator in the Hilbert space and which allows a computation of the Hilbert–Schmidt norm and of the trace of respectively Hilbert–Schmidt class and trace-class operators. We study their time-evolution for the quantum Harmonic Oscillator hamiltonian and show that a time evolved coherent state located around phase-space point z is up to a phase a coherent state located around the phase-space point \(z_t\), where \(z_t\) is the phase-space point of the classical flow governed by the Harmonic Oscillator. This property was described by Schrödinger as the non-spreading of the time evolution of coherent states under the quantum Harmonic Oscillator dynamics. We also show how to go from the Schrödinger to the Fock–Bargmann representation using the standard coherent states.

Spin Number Coherent States and the Problem of Two Coupled Oscillators*

D. Ojeda-Guillén, R. D. Mota, V. D. Granados

Abstract From the definition of the standard Perelomov coherent states we introduce the Perelomov number coherent states for any su(2) Lie algebra. With the displacement operator we apply a similarity transformation to the su(2) generators and construct a new set of operators which also close the su(2) Lie algebra, being the Perelomov number coherent states the new basis for its unitary irreducible representation. We apply our results to obtain the energy spectrum, the eigenstates and the partition function of two coupled oscillators. We show that the eigenstates of two coupled oscillators are the SU(2) Perelomov number coherent states of the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator with an appropriate choice of the coherent state parameters.

Bosonic andk-fermionic coherent states for a class of polynomial Weyl–Heisenberg algebras

Mohammed Daoud A, M. Kibler

The aim of this paper is to construct coherent states à la Perelomov and à la Barut–Girardello for a polynomial Weyl–Heisenberg algebra. This generalized Weyl–Heisenberg algebra, denoted by , depends on r real parameters and is an extension of the one-parameter algebra (Daoud and Kibler 2010 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 43 115303) which covers the cases of the su (1, 1) algebra (for κ > 0), the su (2) algebra (for κ < 0) and the h 4 ordinary Weyl–Heisenberg algebra (for κ = 0). For finite-dimensional representations of and , where is a truncation of order s of in the sense of Pegg–Barnett, a connection is established with k -fermionic algebras (or quon algebras). This connection makes it possible to use generalized Grassmann variables for constructing certain coherent states. Coherent states of the Perelomov type are derived for infinite-dimensional representations of and for finite-dimensional representations of and through a Fock–Bargmann analytical approach based on the use of complex (or bosonic) variables. The same approach is applied for deriving coherent states of the Barut–Girardello type in the case of infinite-dimensional representations of . In contrast, the construction of coherent states à la Barut–Girardello for finite-dimensional representations of and can be achieved solely at the price of replacing complex variables by generalized Grassmann (or k -fermionic) variables. Some of the results are applied to su (2), su (1, 1) and the harmonic oscillator (in a truncated or not truncated form). This article is part of a special issue of Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and Theoretical devoted to 'Coherent states: mathematical and physical aspects'.

Coherent states for the harmonic series irreducible representations of U(p,q). I. Unitary operator coherent states

C. Quesne

Unitary operator coherent states, as defined by Klauder (1963), Perelomov (1972) and Gilmore (1974), are considered for the harmonic series irreducible representations of U(p,q). Various properties of these states are reviewed, including their reproducing kernel and measure explicit forms, as well as the representation they lead to for the U(p,q) generators. Starting from a contraction of the su(p,q) Lie algebra, both Dyson and Holstein-Primakoff boson realisations of u(p,q) are obtained in terms of pq pairs of boson creation, annihilation operators and of the generators of a U(p)*U(q) intrinsic group. Such boson realisations are applied to determine the matrix elements of the U(p,q) generators between discrete bases classified according to the chain U(p,q) contains/implies U(p)*U(q). Finally, the isomorphism between so(4,2) and su(2,2) is employed to derive the corresponding properties of the SO(4,2) unitary operator coherent states for application in atomic physics.

SU(1,1) Nonlinear Coherent States

B. Mojaveri, Alireza Dehghani

The idea of construction of the nonlinear coherent states based on the hypergeometric- type operators associated to the Weyl-Heisenberg group [J:P hys:A 45(2012) 095304], are generalized to the similar states for the arbitrary Lie group SU(1, 1). By using of a discrete, unitary and irreducible representation of the Lie algebra su(1, 1) wide range of generalized nonlinear coherent states(GNCS) have been introduced, which admit a resolution of the identity through positive definite measures on the complex plane. We have shown that realization of these states for different values of the deformation pa- rameters r = 1 and 2 lead to the well-known Klauder-Perelomov and Barut-Girardello coherent states associated to the Irreps of the Lie algebra su(1, 1), respectively. It is worth to mention that, like the canonical coherent states, GNCS possess the temporal stability property. Finally, studying some statistical characters implies that they have indeed nonclassical features such as squeezing, anti-bunching effect and sub-Poissonian statistics, too.
