Atom optics: Old ideas, current technology, and new results

David E. Pritchard, Alexander D. Cronin, Subhadeep Gupta +1 more

Atom optics is the coherent manipulation of the atomic matter waves originally postulated by the developers of quantum mechanics. These pioneers also proposed the use of stimulated light forces to manipulate particles. These ideas have been combined with current technology to produce the field of atom optics. This, in turn, has shed new light on old quantum problems like the which way problem and the origins of quantum decoherence. Bose Einstein condensates combine naturally with atom optics to produce new results such as the coherent amplification of matter waves. This review of atom optics traces these connections.

Relaxed optics: The necessity of the creation and problem of the development

Petro P. Trokhimchuck

The problem of the irreversible interaction light and matter has a long history. The problem of the interaction light with classical crystals in the self-absorption range is now practically unknown. In the modern radiation physics the problem of the creation damages after optical irradiation the crystals is insufficiently known too. For the resolution of this problem, relaxed optics was created. For the synthesis of all possible phenomena of irreversible interaction light and matter, relaxed optics was created. The basic phenomenological parameters of relaxed optics are as following: chronological parameters; the time of the irradiation; the time of the chaotization, practically the time of the transition the elementary act of the excitation with short-range action to long-range action; the dynamic (practically in general case thermodynamic) time of the system relaxation; the time of life the excitation phase in equilibrium and nonequilibrium states respectively. Relaxed optics is the natural expansion methods of the irreversible physics on optics. The relaxed optical phenomena are in equal parts of modern optics
