Abstract

Optical bistability (OB) behavior of a Kobrak-Rice 5-level quantum system is investigated. It is demonstrated that the OB of the system can be controlled by either the intensity or relative phase of driving flelds. We have also shown that by applying an incoherent pumping fleld, the OB behavior of the system changes and the considerable output is obtained for zero input in the gain region induced by incoherent pumping fleld.

CONTROLLING THE OPTICAL BISTABILITY AND MULTISTABILITY VIA ATOM LOCALIZATION

We investigate optical bistability (OB) and optical multistability (OM) behaviors in a triply driven five-level atomic system. It is shown that the system has bistable behavior and can be controlled by intensity of applied fields. We find that OB switches to OM via interference induced among the Rabi-split resonance. We consider a superposed one-dimension standing wave, generated by two optical fields, and it is demonstrated that the OB and OM behaviors depend on the position of localized atoms as well as the relative phase of applied fields.

OPTICAL BISTABILITY VIA INCOHERENT PUMPING FIELDS IN SEMICONDUCTOR QUANTUM WELLS

HUI WANG, Hongtao Zhang, Zhiping Wang

Under the non-resonant condition, we investigated the optical bistability (OB) in a three-level quantum well system inside a unidirectional ring cavity. We find that the incoherent pumping fields and the quantum interference induced by incoherent pumping fields can affect the optical bistability dramatically, which can be used to manipulate efficiently the threshold intensity and the hysteresis loop. These results are achieved by applying the two incoherent pumping fields, so they are very different from the conventional schemes that coherent driving fields are used to control the optical bistability. Thus, it may provide some new possibilities for technological applications in optoelectronics and solid-state quantum information science.

Controlling the optical bistability in a multi-level atomic system via similar parameters of quantum well nanostructure

Hossein Jafarzadeh

The spontaneously generated coherence (SGC) effects on optical bistability (OB) are investigated in a five-level K-type system. It is found that SGC makes the system phase dependent. Thus, the OB and the absorption behavior of the system can be controlled by the relation phase of applied fields. In addition, the pump field intensity effect on the OB behavior is discussed. The experimental viability of the model in semiconductor quantum well system is also discussed [A. V. Germanenko et al., J. Phys.: Conf. Ser. 376, 012024 (2012); D. S. Chemla et al., IEEE J. Gain-assisted optical bistability and multistability in superconducting phase quantum circuits

Zahra Amini Sabegh, Mohammad Ali Maleki, Mohammad Mahmoudi

Abstract We study the absorption and optical bistability (OB) behavior of the superconducting phase quantum circuits in the four-level cascade and closed-loop configurations. It is shown that the OB is established in both configurations and it can be controlled by the intensity and frequency of applied fluxes. It is also demonstrated that the gain-assisted OB is generated in both configurations and can switch to the gain-assisted optical multistability (OM) only by changing the relative phase of applied fluxes in closed-loop quantum system. It is worth noting that the several significant output fluxes with negligible inputs can be seen in bistable behavior of the closed-loop configuration due to the nonlinear processing.

Effect of Quantum Interference from Incoherent Pumping Field and Spontaneous Emission on Controlling the Optical Bistability and Multi-Stability

Hamid Reza Hamedi, Ali Sari, Mostafa Sahrai +1 more

Optical bistability (OB) and optical multi-stability (OM) of a four-level Λ-type atomic system with two fold lower levels inside a unidirectional ring cavity is investigated. The effect of quantum interference arising from spontaneous emission and incoherent pumping on OB and OM is discussed. It is found that the threshold of OB and OM can be controlled by quantum interference mechanisms. In addition intensity of coupling field and the rate of an incoherent pumping field on behavior of OB and OM are then discussed.

Optical bistability and multistability via amplitude and phase control in a Duplicated two-level system

Luling Jin, Zhongyao Feng

We investigate the optical bistability (OB) in a duplicated two-level system contained in a ring cavity. The atoms are driven by two orthogonally polarized fields with a relative phase. The OB behavior of such a system can be controlled by the amplitude and the relative phase of the coupling field, and it is possible to switch between bistability and multistability by adjusting the relative phase.
