Wave Function of Anyon Systems

Abstract

A method is proposed to construct wave functions of anyon systems when those of fermion systems are given. It is shown that the anyon ground state energy does not exceed the corresponding fermion one if the wave function of the fermion ground state is given by a real function.

Ground state of many anyons in a harmonic potential

R. Chitra, Diptiman Sen

The ground-state energy and wave function of many anyons in a harmonic oscillator potential is studied using perturbation theory from the fermionic and bosonic ends. As the number of anyons increases to infinity, the ground-state energy scales with the power 3/2. As the statistics parameter changes, there are repeated level crossings between states having different angular momenta. Hence the ground state is only piecewise continuous, and the number of pieces increases with the number of anyons. This is to be contrasted with the problem of interpolating statistics in one dimension where there are no level crossings in the ground state for any number of particles.

Multianyon spectra and wave functions

Chihong Chou

We study a many-body system consisting of $N$ identical anyons in an external harmonic-oscillator potential. A partial set of exact solutions is obtained by using Jacobi coordinates. For completing the full investigation, we employ a perturbative method to compute those spectra, which have not been analytically obtained. Near the boson limit, we point out that the requirement of the boson being hard core is needed for performing the perturbative calculations, and the first-order $N$-anyon ground-state energies are explicitly presented by using a proper regulation procedure. Up to third perturbative order from the fermion limit, the three-anyon ground-state energy corrections are explicitly presented. Finally we compute the first-order three-anyon ground-state wave function near the fermion limit.

Comment on ``Additional analytically exact solutions for three-anyons'' and ``Fermion Ground State of Three Particles in a Harmonic Potential Well and Its Anyon Interpolation''

Stefan V. Mashkevich

The claim put forward in [hep-th/9512051, hep-th/9612244] that the energies of the ``missing'' states of three anyons in a harmonic potential depend linearly on the statistics parameter, is incorrect because the wave functions proposed do not satisfy the anyonic interchange conditions.

One-Dimensional Fermion Density Formula

Herbert Payne

An expression for the sum of the position-probability densities for a one-dimensional system of fermions in the ground state is derived from wave mechanics. Its accuracy in application to three different potential-energy functions is shown. For the square well of infinite height it preserves the sinusoidal contributions which disappear in the corresponding Fermi—Thomas treatment. Where the potential energy exceeds the Fermi level, it is properly characterized.

Quantum mechanics of the ground state of four identical fermions

Ludwig W. Bruch

Wave functions for four identical spin-one-half fermions with total spin 0, 1, and 2 are constructed. Lower bounds on the ground state energies of these spin states are derived. The results are illustrated with an analysis of 4-fermions interacting via Hooke’s law potentials in three spatial dimensions. Other bounds on the ground state energy of four identical particles are also discussed.

Single-particle excitation spectrum of the anyon gas

Alexander L. Fetter, Charles B. Hanna

The single-particle energy spectrum of the anyon gas is calculated in the Hartree-Fock approximation, for all fractional statistics corresponding to a ground state with an integral number of filled Landau levels. We also compute the first-order shift in the ground-state energy as a function of the statistics.
