The single-particle energy spectrum of the anyon gas is calculated in the Hartree-Fock approximation, for all fractional statistics corresponding to a ground state with an integral number of filled Landau levels. We also compute the first-order shift in the ground-state energy as a function of the statistics.
We derive an approximate analytic formula for the ground-state energy of the charged anyon gas. Our approach is based on the harmonically confined two-dimensional (2D) Coulomb anyon gas and a regularization procedure for vanishing confinement. To take into account the fractional statistics and Coulomb interaction we introduce a function, which depends on both the statistics and density parameters ($\ensuremath{\nu}$ and rs, respectively). We determine this function by fitting to the ground-state energies of the classical electron crystal at very large rs (the 2D Wigner crystal), and to the Hartree-Fock (HF) energy of the spin-polarized 2D electron gas, and the dense 2D Coulomb Bose gas at very small rs. The latter is calculated by use of the Bogoliubov approximation. Applied to the boson system $(\ensuremath{\nu}=0)$ our results are very close to recent results from Monte Carlo (MC) calculations. For spin-polarized electron systems $(\ensuremath{\nu}=1)$ our comparison leads to a critical judgment concerning the density range, to which the HF approximation and MC simulations apply. In dependence on $\ensuremath{\nu}$, our analytic formula yields ground-state energies, which monotonously increase from the bosonic to the fermionic side if rs>1. For ${r}_{s}\ensuremath{\leqslant}1$ it shows a nonmonotonous behavior indicating a breakdown of the assumed continuous transformation of bosons into fermions by variation of the parameter $\ensuremath{\nu}$.
We study the free anyon fluid by extending the usual Bogoliubov approximation to the case of nonlocal "statistical" interactions. We thereby compute the ground-state energy, the spectrum of low-lying excitations, the static structure factor, and the pair distribution function. The ground-state energy depends crucially on the magnetic dimension of the anyons, a scale that is unavoidably present at the quantum level. The linearly dispersing collective mode in the excitation spectrum indicates superfluidity.
The correlated random-phase-approximation (CRPA) method is applied to study the ground-state and excited-state properties of an anyon gas. We perform a systematic 1/N expansion to the calculation of elementary excitations, where N is the statistical parameter. We find that the leading-(1/N)-order contributions are the same as those obtained by calculations of the RPA response functions. We then consider corrections to the RPA by a perturbation of the exchange interactions, and show that these higher-order corrections are important at large wave vectors. Our calculation gives an excitation spectrum in good agreement with that obtained by the exact solution of a small system.
We derive the second and third virial coefficients and the ground state energy shift for charged anyons within the Hartree-Fock approximation. A second quantization scheme at finite temperature is introduced for this calculation up to the second order and the vertex is composed of anyonic, point, constant as well as Coulomb interactions. The thermodynamic potential for the second order correlation diagram of Coulomb interaction leads to the logarithmic divergence (V ln V). Hence, we find the heat capacity and the correlation energy of anyons without Coulomb-Coulomb interaction. Finally, we discuss the magnetic-field-induced localization at low filling ν, including the Wigner crystal phase.
