We describe the main features of a cold atom frequency standard based on coherent population trapping (CPT). We explain our particular CPT configuration and our experimental setup, and present simulations of the expected performance (stability and major systematics).

We present the status of our cold-atom clock based on coherent population trapping, including the present clock stability and a preliminary evaluation of the three main systematic frequency shifts: the 1st-order Doppler shift, the Zeeman shift, and the light shift.

Two projects of compact cold atom clocks are currently developed: a clock with atoms directly cooled in the microwave cavity and a clock based on coherent population trapping. For each device, different interrogation and detection schemes are evaluated and reported

Cancellation of Doppler shifts in a cold-atom CPT clock

Elizabeth A. Donley, François-Xavier Esnault, E. Blanshan +1 more

A compact cold-atom clock based on coherent population trapping (CPT) is being developed. Long-term goals for the clock include achieving a fractional frequency accuracy of 1×10-13in a package of less than 10 cm3in volume. Here we present an overview of a prototype clock design, and a systematic evaluation of the first-order Doppler shift. We also introduce our second-generation physics package.

Atomic clock using coherent population trapping in a cesium cell: frequency stability and limitations

Toward the next generation of compact devices, atomic clocks based on coherent population trapping (CPT) offer a very interesting alternative. We present a review of our studies on the short and mid term stability of a compact high performance atomic clock based on CPT in view of portable applications.

A compact setup for double-modulation coherent population trapping clock

We demonstrate an atomic clock based on double-modulation CPT. With a high contrast CPT signal observed in this scheme, we get a preliminary result of the frequency stability: 4×10-13 at 1 second. It shows the possibility to implement an atomic clock with a compact and robust setup while still maintaining its high performance.
