Abstract

Possible optical implementation of CCNOT gate based on the M-configuration system of atomic levels is discussed. The semiclassical estimations of summary conditional phase shift for the corresponding Controlled Phase Shift (CPS) operator are got. To this end the nonlinear optical phenomena (such as EIT) connected with resonant interaction of electromagnetic field acting on the four transients of five level atomic system with M-configuration (in stationary operating mode) is investigated. It is shown that the M-scheme may be used for implementation of CCNOT gate.

Possible implementation of CNOT and CCNOT gates

The quantum optical gate CCNOT based on five level atomic scheme is discussed. The qubits are encoded in polarization properties of three optical beams. The nonlinear cross Kerr effect is used for getting nonlinear phase shifts in these beams. A way of CNOT implementation using coupled double quantum wells is suggested. The device is described in the framework of the model based on the operator extensions theory.

Nonlinear optical properties of a medium with M-configuration of atomic levels

George P. Miroshnichenko, I. Yu. Popov, Alexander Trifanov

Nonlinear effects related to the resonant interaction of electromagnetic fields that act on four transitions of a five-level M scheme of atomic levels in the stationary limit are studied. Eight stationary solutions that depend on the state of circular polarizations of three operating classical modes of the field are found for the atomic density matrix. To decrease the absorption of the fields on the atomic transitions, the regime of electromagnetically induced transparency is used. The conditions under which the M scheme is close in its optical properties to two- or three-level schemes are found. Based on the obtained eight solutions, the total accumulated phase shifts of the working waves are calculated. It is shown that the M scheme can perform the operation of double controlled phase shift. Alternatively to the method proposed, this operation also can be carried out using five two-qubit operations, which reduces its noise immunity.

Quantum phase-gate operation based on nonlinear optics: Full quantum analysis

Carlo Ottaviani, S. Rebić, David Vitali +1 more

We present a full quantum treatment of a five-level atomic system coupled to two quantum and two classical light fields. The two quantum fields undergo a cross-phase-modulation induced by electromagnetically induced transparency. The performance of this configuration as a two-qubit quantum phase gate for traveling single photons is examined. A trade-off between the size of the conditional phase shift and the fidelity of the gate is found. Nonetheless, a satisfactory gate performance is still found to be possible in the transient regime, corresponding to a fast gate operation.

Conditional Phase Shift for Quantum CCNOT Operation

Alexander Trifanov, George P. Miroshnichenko

We suggest the improvement of description methods for quantum phase gate implementation in the cavity of QED configuration. Qubits are encoded into two lowest Fock state. Three qubit phase transformation is resulted from the interaction between Rydberg atom and three modes of cavity electromagnetic field. Evolution of conditional field states appearing after atom measurement is described by Kraus transformers. One of these operators is very convenient for phase gate implementation. We show that it corresponds to conditional evolution without quantum jumps. Also we describe cavity based generating EPR pair from certain initially disentangled state.

A proposal for the implementation of a quantum phase gate in a five-level atomic medium

Carlo Ottaviani, S. Rebić, Giovanni Di Giuseppe +2 more

The interaction of a five-level atomic system involving electromagnetically induced transparency with four light fields is investigated. Two different operating regimes are considered, semi-classical and quantized, where two light fields are treated as quantum. In the semi-classical regime, the dispersive properties of the scheme are analyzed in detail, and the conditions leading to group velocity matching for two of the light fields are identified. In the quantized regime, the two quantum fields undergo cross-phase modulation induced by electromagnetically induced transparency. Based on this, a recent proposal [C. Ottaviani et al., Phys. Rev. A 73 , 010301 (R) (2006)] for a two-qubit quantum phase gate for traveling single-photon qubits is examined. An experimental scheme for verification of QPG operation is proposed.
