Abstract

A three level atom and a longitudinal mode of a cavity can implement two-qubit quantum phase gates. The qubits are represented by the zero-and one-photon states of the two circular polarization states of the field.

Cavity QED quantum phase gates for a single longitudinal mode of the intracavity field

R. García-Maraver, R. Corbalán, J. Mompart +3 more

In this work, a single three-level atom driven by a single longitudinal mode of a high-Q cavity is used to implement two-qubit quantum phase gates (QPG) for the intracavity field. The two qubits are associated with the zero- and one-photon Fock states of each of the two opposite circular polarization states of the field. The three-level atom mediates the conditional phase gate provided the two circular polarization states and the atom interact in a V-type configuration and the two-photon resonance condition is satisfied.

Cavity QED quantum phase gates for a single longitudinal mode of the intracavity field

R. García-Maraver, R. Corbalán, K. Eckert +3 more

A single three-level atom driven by a longitudinal mode of a high-$Q$ cavity is used to implement two-qubit quantum phase gates for the intracavity field. The two qubits are associated with the zero- and one-photon Fock states of each of the two opposite circular polarization states of the field. The three-level atom mediates the conditional phase gate provided the two polarization states and the atom interact in a V-type configuration and the two-photon resonance condition is satisfied. Microwave and optical implementations are discussed with gate fidelities being evaluated against several decoherence mechanisms such as atomic velocity fluctuations or the presence of a weak magnetic field. The use of coherent states for both polarization states is investigated to assess the entanglement capability of the proposed quantum gates.

Cavity-QED-based quantum phase gate

Muhammad Suhail Zubairy, Moochan B. Kim, Marlan O. Scully

We describe a quantum phase gate in which the two qubits are represented by the photons in the two modes of the cavity field. The gate is implemented by passing a three-level atom in a cascade configuration through the cavity. The upper levels of the atom are resonant with one of the cavity modes whereas the lower levels are appropriately detuned from the other mode of the cavity. A $\ensuremath{\pi}$ phase shift is introduced when there is one photon each in the two modes and the atom is initially in the ground state. We also discuss the one-bit unitary gate in such a system and discuss potential applications.

Single three-level atoms for quantum information

J. Mompart, Rolando Velázquez García, R. Corbalán

A single three-level atom in interaction with a single longitudinal mode of a high-Q cavity is used to quantum engineer the intracavity field. In our proposal the quantum bit states correspond to the vacuum and single photon Fock states of each of two circular polarization states of the longitudinal mode. We show that for particular velocities of the three-level atom crossing the cavity it is possible to implement in one single step a two-qubit quantum phase gate between the two circular polarization states. Fidelity against several decoherence mechanisms such as atomc velocity fluctuations or the presence of a weak magnetic field along the cavity axis is analyzed.

Quantum phase gate of photonic qubits in a cavity QED system

Jing Shu, Xu‐Bo Zou, Yun‐Feng Xiao +1 more

A scheme is proposed to realize a two-qubit quantum phase gate for the intracavity modes. In the scheme, two qubits are encoded in zero- and one-photon Fock states of two intracavity modes, and the three-level $\ensuremath{\Lambda}$-type atom trapped in a high-$Q$ cavity mediates the conditional phase gate within a given interaction time. The influence of cavity decay and atomic spontaneous emission on the gate fidelity is also discussed.

Three-qubit phase gate based on cavity quantum electrodynamics

Juntao Chang, Muhammad Suhail Zubairy

We describe a three-qubit quantum phase gate which is implemented by passing a four-level atom in a cascade configuration initially in its ground state through a three-mode optical cavity. The three qubits are represented by the photons in the three modes of the cavity. Under appropriate detunings, coupling coefficients, and interaction times, this system exhibits like a three-qubit quantum phase gate. Such a quantum phase gate has potential applications in quantum search.
