Production Of Multiple 87Rb Condensates And Atom Lasers By Rf Coupling

F. Minardi, C. Fort, P. Maddaloni +1 more

We have investigated the rf output coupling of a 87Rb condensate from a Ioffe-Pritchard magnetic trap. Multiple condensates in different Zeeman states are produced, their population being varied by playing with the duration and the amplitude of the rf pulse. Both pulsed and continuous outputs (atom laser) have been observed.

Evaporative cooling rubidium atoms with microwave radiation

熊德智 Dezhi Xiong, 王鹏军 Pengjun Wang, 陈海霞 Haixia Chen +1 more

We report the experimental achievement of 87Rb Bose-Einstein condensation in a magnetic trap with microwave and radio frequency (RF) induced evaporation. Evaporative cooling is realized by using 6.8 GHz microwave radiation driving the 87Rb atoms to transit from the ground-state hyperfine state |F = 2,mF =2> to |F = 1,mF = 1>. Compared with RF-induced evaporation, 87Rb atoms are hardly to achieve pure condensate by microwave evaporation cooling due to the effect of atoms in the |F = 1,mF = 1> state being pumped back into the trapping |F = 2,mF = 1> state.

The inherent fluctuations of the pulsed atom laser in F=2 manifold of 87Rb atoms

Lin Xia, F. Yang, Xiaoji Zhou +1 more

We have observed the intensity fluctuations of the F=2 87Rb atom laser at low output coupling rate. Theoretically, we find that the atom loss of the condensate due to the output of atom laser leads to fluctuations of the laser pulses, which is inherent in all state changing out-coupling such as rf and Raman. Another reason leading to large fluctuations is the interference of output pulses.
