Abstract

In this paper the photon addition-then-subtraction coherent state (PASCS) is put forward by first adding multiphotons to and then subtracting multiphotons from the coherent state. By taking advantage of the technique of integration within an ordered product of operators, the analytical expressions of the normalization constant, photon-number distribution, Mandel’s Q parameter, the P function, the Q function, and the Wigner function (WF) of the PASCS are derived. The fidelity between the PASCS and the initial coherent state is also deduced and its nonclassicality discussed. In addition, the time evolution of the WF is derived analytically and the decoherence of the PASCS in the photon-loss channel is studied.

Photon-subtracted squeezed coherent state: nonclassicality and decoherence in thermal environment

Zhen Wang, Xiang‐Guo Meng, Hong-Yi Fan

We introduce the photon-subtracted squeezed coherent state (PSSCS), which is theoretically constructed by repeatedly subtracting photons from the squeezed coherent state (SCS) with squeezing parameter r and displacement amplitude α=|α|eiφ. Employing the normal ordering form of density operator of the SCS, we study the nonclassicality of the PSSCS by analyzing Mandel’s Q-parameter, quadratures squeezing, photon-number distribution (PND), and Wigner function (WF). We find that the PND in a PSSCS is a periodic function of φ with a period π and exhibits more remarkable oscillations than that of a SCS in the case of strong squeezing. The partial negative region of the WF is sensitive to r and |α|. The fidelity between PSSCS and SCS is analyzed, which manifests that larger photon subtraction number may result in lower fidelity. By virtue of the thermal entangled state representation the decoherence of the PSSCS in thermal environment is studied through the time evolution of the WF. The negative volume of the WF gradually diminishes with the increase of evolution time and thermal photon number, respectively. The study of the PSSCS shows that generating new photon-number-controllable nonclassical states from a weak coherent light may be realized by subtracting suitable photons from a SCS.

Nonclassicality of Any Number Photon Added-then-subtractedand Subtracted-then-added Coherent States

We study the nonclassical properties of arbitrary number photon creation-then-annihilation operation(CA) and annihilation-then-creation operation(AC) to the coherent states, and give the analytical expression.Because of the noncoummutativity of between annihilation operator and the creation operator, the states generated by AC operation and CA operation have different nonclassical properties. We firstly derive the analytical expressions of normalization factor for these states, and then study the statistics characteristics by some nonclassical properties, such as the Mandel Q parameters, the photon number distribution and the Wigner function. It is shown that these states have a very distinct nonclassical properties, and the nonclassical state generated by AC operation can present more clear nonclassicality than those generated by the CA operation.

Decoherence of a photon-subtraction-addition coherent state in a thermal environment

Haoliang Zhang, Fang Jia, Xue-xiang Xu +3 more

We investigate the nonclassicality and decoherence of a photon-subtraction-addition coherent state (a++a)m|a in a thermal environment. Its nonclassicality is discussed by deriving analytically Mandel's Q parameter, photon number distribution, and Wigner function. It is shown that if the condition |2z*+ -*|2 1 is satisfied, the Wigner function always presents the negativity for the one-order photon-subtraction-addition coherent state (m=1). Based on the evolution formula of Wigner function, we derive a compact expression for Wigner function in the thermal environment. It is found that when t(1/2)ln[(2N+2)/(2N+1)] there is no negativity for the case of m=1. In addition, the evolution of nonclassicality is discussed in terms of the negative volume of Wigner function.

Nonclassicality and decoherence of the coherent superposition operation of photon subtraction and addition on the squeezed state

Lijuan Xu, Guo-Bin Tan, Ma Shan-Jun +1 more

The statistical properties of m -coherent superposition operation (μ a + va † ) m on the single-mode squeezed vacuum state (M-SSVS) and its decoherence in a thermal environment are studied. Converting the M-SSVS to a squeezed Hermite polynomial excitation state, we obtain a compact expression for the normalization factor of M-SSVS, which is the Legendre polynomial of the squeezing parameter. We also derive the explicit expression of the Wigner function (WF) of the M-SSVS, and find the negative region of the WF in phase space. The decoherence effect on this state is then discussed by deriving the time evolution of the WF. Using the negativity of the WF, the loss of nonclassicality is then discussed.

NONCLASSICALITY AND DECOHERENCE OF PHOTON-ADDED THERMAL STATE

Wang Shu-Jing, Xue-xiang Xu, Ma Shan-Jun

Using the normally ordered form of thermal state characteristic of average photon number nc, we introduce the photon-added thermal state (PATS) and investigate its statistical properties, such as Mandel's Q-parameter, photon number distribution (PND), and Wigner function (WF). We then study its decoherence in a thermal environment with average thermal photon number [Formula: see text] and dissipative coefficient κ by deriving analytical expressions of the WF. The nonclassicality is discussed in terms of the negativity of the WF. It is found that the WF is always positive when [Formula: see text] for any number PATS. The expression for time evolution of the PND and the tomogram of PATS are also derived analytically, which are related to hypergeometric function and single variable Hermite polynomials.
