Entanglement in P@C60 encapsulated in a solid state matrix

Abstract

Abstract This contribution concerns quantum information aspects in fullerenes. In particular we present here the preparation of pseudo‐pure states and pseudo‐entanglement in the coupled electron‐nucleus system P@C60 (S = 3/2 and I = 1/2) encapsulated in a solid state matrix. In this system the degeneracy of the high electron spin is lifted, allowing transition selective excitation. Density matrix tomography and phase rotations are applied for detecting pure states and entanglement The fidelity of the entangled state was determined to F = 0.93. Spin–orbital entanglement near quantum phase transitions

Andrzej M. Oleś, Peter Horsch, Giniyat Khaliullin

Abstract Spin–orbital entanglement in the ground state of a one‐dimensional SU(2) ⊗ SU(2) spin–orbital model is analyzed using exact diagonalization of finite chains. For S = 1/2 spins and T = 1/2 pseudospins one finds that the quantum entanglement is similar at the SU(4) symmetry point and in the spin–orbital valence bond state. We also show that quantum transitions in spin–orbital models turn out to be continuous under certain circumstances, in constrast to the discontinuous transitions in spin models with SU(2) symmetry. Entangled electron and nuclear spin states in N15@C60: Density matrix tomography

W. Scherer, Michael Mehring

Procedures of the preparation and detection of entangled electron-nuclear spin states in (15)N@C(60) by combining electron spin resonance and electron nuclear double resonance pulse techniques are presented. A quantitative evaluation of the complete density matrix is obtained by a special density matrix tomography. All four Bell states of a two qubit subsystem were analyzed and experimental decoherence times are presented. In addition, we estimate a quantum critical temperature of T(q)=7.76 K for this system at an electron spin resonance frequency of 95 GHz.

Creating and preserving multi‐partite entanglement with spin chains

Irene D’Amico, Brendon W. Lovett, Timothy P. Spiller

Abstract We show how multi‐partite entanglement, such as of W‐state form, can be created in branched spin chain systems. We also discuss the preservation of such entanglement, once created. The technique could be applied to actual spin chain systems, or to other physical systems such as strings of coupled quantum dots, molecules or atoms. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The physics of quantum impurities – a bridge from micro/nano to macro systems

Thomas Pruschke

Abstract We will give a comprehensive introduction into the concept of quantum impurities and survey on where and why quantum impurity problems arise in modern solid‐state physics. The physical properties of these systems and their applications will be discussed for a selected set of examples. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Entanglement of Spin States in 15N@C60

W. Scherer

The endohedral fullerene 15N@C60 comprises an electron spin S = 3/2 coupled to a nuclear spin I = 1/2 and is therefore ideally suited for experimental testing of basic properties of quantum mechanics. We will show that the 15N@C60 molecule represents a multi qubit system where different kinds of entangled states can be generated.

Simulation of decoherence in 1D systems, a comparison between distinguishable‐ and indistinguishable‐particle collisions

Fabrizio Buscemi, Paolo Bordone, Andrea Bertoni

Abstract We give a quantitative evaluation of the entanglement dynamics in scattering events between two electrons interacting via Coulomb potential in 1D systems, We apply a method, specifically designed for indistinguishable particles, based on the calculation of the von Neumann entropy of the system density matrix. From the timedependent numerical solution of the two‐particle wavefunction we evaluate the entanglement evolution for different spin configurations. The procedure allows to understand the mechanisms that govern entanglement creation and its connection with the characteristic physical parameters and initial conditions of the system.
