Abstract

In this paper the setting up of a binary Josephson array waveform system for synthesization of arbitrary waveforms is described. The authors are with the Electricity Laboratory in the Metrology and Calibration Centre of INTA (Instituto Nacional de Tecnica Aeroespacial) in Torrejon de Ardoz, Madrid, Spain.

Cryogenic Calibration of the RF Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizer

Justus A. Brevik, Alírio Boaventura, Akim A. Babenko +7 more

We performed a preliminary calibrated measurement of the output power of a Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer up to 1 GHz. We present the results and measurement procedure for generating quantum-based signals using an array of Josephson junctions operating at cryogenic temperature and calibrating those signals to transfer the on-wafer quantum-based accuracy to room temperature.

Current Status of Josephson Arbitrary Waveform Synthesis at NMIJ/AIST

Nobu‐Hisa Kaneko, Michitaka Maruyama, Chiharu Urano

AC-waveform synthesis with quantum-mechanical accuracy has been attracting many researchers, especially metrologists in national metrology institutes, not only for its scientific interest but its potential benefit to industries. We describe the current status at National Metrology Institute of Japan of development of a Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer based on programmable and pulse-driven Josephson junction arrays.

Combining Josephson Systems for Spectrally Pure AC Waveforms With Large Amplitudes

Ralf Behr, Oliver Kieler, Detlef Schleubner +2 more

We present the combination of two Josephson waveform synthesizers to generate waveforms with low harmonic distortion [below$-$110 dBc (carrier)] and amplitudes above the 1-V level. Fast and flexible code programming enables pulse-driven Josephson arrays to synthesize arbitrary waveforms. We have used the pulse-driven system to cancel the harmonic content from the binary array that can reach 1-V amplitudes. The quantum nature of the Josephson synthesizer ensures very stable amplitudes (better than$6 \times 10^{-8}$) and no frequency drift. This performance, together with the ability to synthesize arbitrary waveforms, can make this synthesizer a relevant tool for characterizing precision electronics and ac voltage metrology.

A Lumped Array Josephson Pulse Quantizer for Quantum-Based Arbitrary Waveform Synthesizers

M. Schubert, G. Wende, T. May +1 more

Central to quantum-based arbitrary waveform synthesizers is the Josephson pulse quantizer. Its linear dimensions should be small compared to the line wavelength in order to generate an ac voltage with quantum accuracy. Therefore, we use coplanar strip transmission lines to integrate a large number of Josephson junctions into a short array

Development of Josephson junction series arrays for synthesis of AC voltages and arbitrary waveforms

J. Kohlmann, F Müller, Ralf Behr +4 more

Josephson junctions operated by short pulses make the synthesis of AC and arbitrary waveforms possible. Series arrays of intrinsically shunted SINIS and SNS Josephson junctions were developed and characterized for applications in this Josephson arbitrary waveform synthesizer (S: Superconductor, I: Insulator, N: Normal conductor). First measurements under pulse irradiation are presented.
