Multimode capillary waveguide arrays containing reverse-saturable absorbers exhibit an enhancement of the nonlinear response. Experimental data are modeled by the effect of partial mode filling, influenced by fill fraction and capillary diameter.

Using an analytical approach we quantitatively estimate the effects of the pulse shape and material parameters on the intensity-dependent transmittance of reverse saturable absorbers. Irradiance levels required to fully exploit the nonlinearity are estimated.
