MODIFICATION OF SQUEEZING IN THE KICKED ANHARMONIC OSCILLATOR 1

Abstract

We discuss a model of a cavity filled with a passive nonlinear ‘Kerr’ medium and periodically kicked by a series of ultra-short laser pulses. We perform numerical calculations to find the variance of the field quadrature to determine the squeezing properties of the cavity field. We show that degree of the squeezing depends on the parameters describing external, pulsed excitation.

Fock states generation in a kicked cavity with a nonlinear medium

W. Leoński, Sigurd Dyrting, R. Tanaś

We discuss a model of a cavity filled with a passive nonlinear ‚Kerr‘ medium and periodically kicked by a series of ultra-short laser pulses. The nonlinear medium is described by the (2q − 1)th nonlinearity X (2q−1). We find analytical formulas describing the field states inside the cavity. We show that such a system can produce, depending on the order of the nonlinearity, superpositions of several Fock states with the small photon numbers (0,1; 0,1,2; etc). In particular, the one-photon state can be approached during the evolution of the system with X (3) nonlinearity provided the cavity losses are negligible. The purity of states generated in this process, however, can be seriously degraded by the cavity damping. We perform numerical calculations to validate our analytical results.

SQUEEZING PROPERTIES OF COUPLED NONLINEAR OSCILLATORS

Vladimír Bužek, Igor Jex

In this paper the squeezing properties of the two-mode radiation field interacting with a nonliner nonabsorbing Kerr-like medium modelled as a two-mode anharmonic oscillator are studied. Time evolution of the variances of the radiation field initially prepared in the two-mode coherent state as well as the two-mode squeezed vacuum state are analyzed. In particular, it is shown that in the case when the radiation field is initially prepared in the two-mode coherent state the interaction between two modes leads to a high degree of squeezing.

Possibility of producing the one-photon state in a kicked cavity with a nonlinear Kerr medium

W. Leoński, R. Tanaś

It is shown that the field in a cavity, periodically kicked with classical pulses and containing a nonlinear Kerr medium, can reach the one-photon quantum state if the amplitude of the kicks and the time between the kicks are appropriately chosen.

SQUEEZING AND OTHER NON-CLASSICAL FEATURES IN k-PHOTON ANHARMONIC OSCILLATOR IN BINOMIAL AND NEGATIVE BINOMIAL STATES OF THE FIELD

Amitabh Joshi, S. V. Lawande

A systematic study of squeezing obtained from k-photon anharmonic oscillator (with interaction hamiltonian of the form (a†)kak, k ≥ 2) interacting with light whose statistics can be varied from sub-Poissonian to poissonian via binomial state of field and super-Poissonian to poissonian via negative binomial state of field is presented. We predict that for all values of k there is a tendency increase in squeezing with increased sub-Poissonian character of the field while the reverse is true with super-Poissonian field. We also present non-classical behavior of the first order coherence function explicitly for k = 2 case (i.e., for two-photon anharmonic oscillator model used for a Kerr-like medium) with variation in the statistics of the input light.

Generation of squeezed Schrödinger cats in a tunable cavity filled with a Kerr medium

Roberto de J. León‐Montiel, H. M. Moya-Cessa

In this work we analyze the temporal dynamics of a system comprising an optical cavity filled with a nonlinear Kerr medium, whose frequency is allowed to change during time evolution. By exactly solving the corresponding time-dependent anharmonic-oscillator Hamiltonian, we demonstrate that squeezed coherent-state superpositions can be generated within the optical cavity. Moreover, we show that the squeezing degree of the produced states may be tuned by properly controlling the frequency shift of the cavity, a feature that might lead to interesting studies in the field of quantum state engineering.

GENERATION OF SQUEEZING LIGHT IN A LASER CAVITY

Weiping Zhang, TAN WEI-HAN, 中国科学院上海光学精密机械研究所

Generation of squeezing light depends on the nonlinear optical processes. Its intensirv is usually low owing to the limitation of the conversion efficiency. In this paper, the general condition for producing squeezing light is given. According to this condition, the conclusion is obtained that a laser cavity with a nonlinear medium and a gain medium can sime-ltaneously amplify the light intensity and reduce the quantum fluctuation of one quadrature phase component of the light field.
