Superposition of the atomic Bloch state: preparation method

Abstract

We provide an approach for preparing a superposition of atomic Bloch states. This approach is based on the coupling between a single-mode radiative field and a many-atom system. Under the condition of N (the number of atoms) going to infinity, the analytical solution of the time evolution of the coupling system is obtained. Then we discuss the problem with a special type of initial state, the optical Schrödinger cat state, and find a way to generate the so-called atomic Schrödinger cat state.

Preparation of superpositions of coherent states of a field via the Raman interaction

Shi-Biao Zheng, Guang‐Can Guo

A method is presented for generating superpositions of coherent states of a cavity field via the atom - cavity-field Raman interaction. After an atom has interacted with a cavity field, initially in a coherent state, it is detected through the Raman coupling. Then the cavity field collapses into a Schrödinger cat state.

Cavity-QED state reduction method to produce atomic Schrödinger-cat states

Christopher C. Gerry, R. Grobe

Collective atomic Schr\"odinger-cat states are superpositions of distinct atomic coherent states (or Bloch states). We show how even and odd atomic states can be generated in cavity QED by the use of a dispersive interaction between the atoms and the field along with state reduction.

Preparation of Multicomponent Schrödinger Cat States Through Resonant Atom-Field Interaction

Zheng Shi-Biao

A simple method is presented for generating multicomponent Schrödinger cat states through resonant atom-field interactions. In the scheme n two-level atoms, initially in ground states, are sent through a resonant cavity filled with a strong coherent field sequentially. Then state-selective measurements are performed on the atoms. The detections of the atoms in ground states collapse the cavity field onto a superposition of 2 n coherent states. This is the first way for producing superpositions of many coherent states through resonant atom-field interaction.

Schrödinger cat states in quantum-dot-cavity systems

A Schrödinger-cat state is a coherent superposition of macroscopically distinguishable quantum states, in quantum optics usually realized as superposition of coherent states.Protocols to prepare photonic cats have been presented for atomic systems. Here we investigate in what manner and how well the preparation protocols can be transferred to a solid-state platform, namely, a semiconductor quantum-dot-cavity system. In quantum-dotcavity systems there are many disruptive influences like cavity losses, the radiative decay of the quantum dot, and the coupling to longitudinal acoustic phonons. We show that for one of the protocols these influences kill the quantum coherence between the states forming the cat, while for a second protocol a parameter regime can be identified where the essential characteristics of Schrödinger-cat states survive the environmental influences under conditions that can be realized with current equipment.

A scheme for the generation of multi-mode Schrödinger cat states

Shi-Biao Zheng

A scheme is proposed for the generation of superpositions of multi-mode coherent states, i.e. multi-mode Schrödinger cat states. In the scheme a -type three-level atom is sent through many cavities filled with coherent fields. The whole system is entangled via the Raman atom-field interaction. Then the detection of the atom leaves the cavity system in a multi-mode cat state. Under certain conditions, such a cat state is identical to a Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state and thus can be used to test local realistic theories.

Generation and properties of collective atomic Schrödinger-cat states

Christopher C. Gerry, R. Grobe

We propose a method for generating collective atomic Schr\"odinger-cat states formed as superpositions of the Bloch (or atomic coherent) states in the context of cavity QED. We then study the properties of these states and show the effects of the superpositions on spontaneous and stimulated emission, the atomic dipole moment, spin squeezing, and coherence.
