Abstract

We consider on an appropriate Sobolev space a non-Hermitian Hamiltonian depending on the two complex parameters α and β and having real spectrum. We derive a closed formula for a family of the metric operators, which render the Hamiltonian Hermitian. In some particular cases, we calculate the Hermitian counterpart of .

A two-parameter family of non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with real spectrum

Ebru Ergün

We introduce a Hamiltonian H α, β depending on the two complex parameters α and β and develop a through analysis of the spectral properties of this Hamiltonian and its adjoint. We determine the regions in the space of the complex parameters α and β, where H α, β is (i) Hermitian, (ii) non-Hermitian with real spectrum and (iii) non-Hermitian but PT -symmetric. In the case when H α, β is non-Hermitian having real spectrum, we derive a closed formula for a family of the metric operators, depending on two arbitrary real positive parameters, which render the Hamiltonian H α, β Hermitian. In a particular case we calculate the Hermitian counterpart of H α, β .

Calculation of the metric in the Hilbert space of a {\cal P}{\cal T} -symmetric model via the spectral theorem

David Krejčiřı́k

In a previous paper [1] we introduced a very simple -symmetric non-Hermitian Hamiltonian with a real spectrum and derived a closed formula for the metric operator relating the problem to a Hermitian one. In this paper we propose an alternative formula for the metric operator, which we believe is more elegant and whose construction—based on a backward use of the spectral theorem for self-adjoint operators—provides new insights into the nature of the model.

Closed formula for the metric in the Hilbert space of a -symmetric model

David Krejčiřı́k, Hynek Bíla, Miloslav Znojil

We introduce a very simple, exactly solvable PT-symmetric non-Hermitian model with real spectrum, and derive a closed formula for the metric operator which relates the problem to a Hermitian one.

Application of pseudo-Hermitian quantum mechanics to a complex scattering potential with point interactions

Hossein Mehri‐Dehnavi, Ali Mostafazadeh, Ahmet Batal

We present a generalization of the perturbative construction of the metric operator for non-Hermitian Hamiltonians with more than one perturbation parameter. We use this method to study the non-Hermitian scattering Hamiltonian H = p 2 /2 m + ζ − δ(x + α) + ζ + δ(x − α), where ζ ± and α are respectively complex and real parameters and δ(x) is the Dirac delta function. For regions in the space of coupling constants ζ ± where H is quasi-Hermitian and there are no complex bound states or spectral singularities, we construct a (positive-definite) metric operator η and the corresponding equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian h . η turns out to be a (perturbatively) bounded operator for the cases where the imaginary part of the coupling constants have the opposite sign, ℑ(ζ + ) = −ℑ(ζ − ). This in particular contains the -symmetric case: ζ + = ζ* − . We also calculate the energy expectation values for certain Gaussian wave packets to study the nonlocal nature of h or equivalently the non-Hermitian nature of H . We show that these physical quantities are not directly sensitive to the presence of the -symmetry.

Metric operators for quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonians and symmetries of equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonians

Ali Mostafazadeh

We give a simple proof of the fact that every diagonalizable operator that has a real spectrum is quasi-Hermitian and show how the metric operators associated with a quasi-Hermitian Hamiltonian are related to the symmetry generators of an equivalent Hermitian Hamiltonian.

The complete menu of eligible metrics for a family of toy Hamiltonians $H \neq H^\dagger$ with real spectra

Miloslav Znojil

An elementary set of non-Hermitian $N$ by $N$ matrices $H^{(N)}(λ) \neq [ H^{(N)}(λ)]^\dagger$ with real spectra is considered, assuming that each of these matrices represents a selfadjoint quantum Hamiltonian in an {\it ad hoc} Hilbert space of states ${\cal H}^{(physical)}$. The problem of an explicit specification of all of these spaces (i.e., in essence, of all of the eligible {\it ad hoc} inner products and metric operators $Θ$) is addressed. The problem is shown exactly solvable and, for every size $N=2,4,...$ and parameter $λ\in (-1,1)$ in matrix $H^{(N)}(λ)$, the complete $N-$parametric set of metrics $Θ^{(N)}_{α_1,α_2,...,α_N}(λ)$ is recurrently defined by closed formula.
