BIEXCITON SQUEEZING DUE TO OPTICAL EXCITON-BIEXCITON CONVERSION

Abstract

We theoretically investigate the evolution of biexcitons from a coherent into a squeezed state in a fully quantum system described by a trilinear Hamiltonian allowing the transition "photons + excitons ⇌ biexcitons". Curious dependences of the direction and degree of biexciton squeezing on the initial states of photons and excitons are obtained. The theoretical results are well reproduced by numerical calculations.

BIEXCITON k th POWER AMPLITUDE SQUEEZING DUE TO OPTICAL EXCITON–BIEXCITON CONVERSION

Vo Tinh, Nguyen Ba An

We extend a previous paper on biexciton normal squeezing to the case of k th power amplitude squeezing in a quantum interacting system of photons, excitons and biexcitons. We find that the k th power amplitude squeezing depends on the characteristics of the initial coherent biexciton while the normal squeezing does not. Both the direction of maximal squeezing and the squeezing degree are derived as explicit functions of k. Especially, the squeezing degree always decreases with increasing k regardless of the initial conditions. All these properties are examined numerically.

SQUEEZED STATE OF BIEXCITONS IN EXCITED SEMICONDUCTORS

Nguyen Ba An

Exact time-evolution is analytically derived from a coherent photon-exciton system subjected to a monochromatic radiation field resonant with the exciton-biexciton transition. It is shown that biexcitons, which appear under the resonant pumping, might periodically behave as squeezed quasiparticles, if photons or/and excitons are initially in squeezed states. The squeezing degree of the initial photons or/and excitons, the pumping intensity and the off-resonance detuning are demonstrated to govern the transfer of squeezing from the photon-exciton system to the biexciton.

SQUEEZED EXCITONS IN SEMICONDUCTORS

Nguyen Ba An

The concept is introduced of squeezed excitons that appear during the process of their interaction with squeezed photons. Situations are considered where the excitons initially are in the Fock or coherent states. For the excitons to become squeezed it is more favourable to prepare them beforehand in a coherent state than in a Fock one. The squeezing degree of excitons depends on that of the initial photons and on detuning.

Light squeezing via a biexciton in a semiconductor microcavity

Hisaki Oka, Hiroshi Ajiki

We theoretically investigate the squeezing of light by the interaction between a biexciton and cavity polaritons. As a model system, we consider a CuCl-quantum-well microcavity in which a biexciton can stably exist. An effective biexciton-polariton coupled state can be formed by controlling the polariton level structure by modifying the quantum-well thickness. We analyze in detail the nonlinear optical response obtained from the coupled state, and evaluate the light squeezing by directly calculating the variance of quantum noise in the output field, in terms of the dependence of the squeezing on the incident light intensity. We clarify an optimal condition yielding maximum squeezing and show that squeezing is enhanced by utilizing biexciton nonlinearity, compared with the squeezing achieved in a system having no biexciton.

Density-Dependent Squeezing of Excitons in Highly Excited Semiconductors

Nguyễn Hồng Quang

The time evolution from coherent states to squeezed states of high density excitons is studied theoretically based on the boson formalism and within the Random Phase Approximation. Both the mutual interaction between excitons and the anharmonic exciton-photon interaction due to phase-space filling of excitons are included in consideration. It is shown that the exciton squeezing depends strongly on the exciton density in semiconductors and becomes smaller with increasing the latter.
