Convergence of multitime correlation functions in the weak and singular coupling limits

Abstract

For a system coupled to a thermal bath we prove the convergence of the multitime correlation functions of system observables in the weak and singular coupling limits. The limiting correlation functions are given by the quantum regression law. Therefore, our result implies that in the limit the dynamics of the system are governed by a quantum stochastic process in the sense of Lindblad.

Strong Markov Dissipation in Driven-Dissipative Quantum Systems

Takashi Mori

Abstract The Lindblad equation, which describes Markovian quantum dynamics under dissipation, is usually derived under the weak system-bath coupling assumption. Strong system-bath coupling often leads to non-Markov evolution. The singular-coupling limit is known as an exception: it yields a Lindblad equation with an arbitrary strength of dissipation. However, the singular-coupling limit requires high-temperature limit of the bath, and hence the system ends up in a trivial infinite-temperature state, which is not desirable in the context of quantum control. In this work, it is shown that we can derive a Markovian Lindblad equation for an arbitrary strength of the system-bath coupling by considering a new scaling limit that is called the singular-driving limit, which combines the singular-coupling limit and fast periodic driving. In contrast to the standard singular-coupling limit, an interplay between dissipation and periodic driving results in a nontrivial steady state.

Emergence of distinct relaxation behaviour and Quantum Regression Theorem in the Ultra-strong Coupling Limit

Sakil Khan, Bijay Kumar Agarwalla

In the framework of open quantum systems, we derive the dynamical equation governing two-time correlation functions in the ultra-strong coupling (USC) regime between the system and its environment. Unlike the case of the standard weak-coupling regime, in the USC case, we find distinct relaxation behavior for two-time correlators depending on the types of the operators involved in the correlation function. Interestingly, the Quantum Regression Theorem (QRT) emerges after the fastest relaxation time-scale, which is governed by the system-bath coupling strength. We exemplify our findings for the dissipative spin-boson model and further find excellent agreement with the numerically exact hierarchical equations of motion (HEOM) method.

Quantum regression beyond the Born-Markov approximation for generalized spin-boson models

Davide Lonigro, Dariusz Chruściński

The quantum regression formula for an open quantum system consists in an infinite hierarchy of conditions for its multitime correlation functions, thus requiring full access to the total ``$\mathrm{system}+\mathrm{environment}$'' evolution, and providing a stronger requirement than completely positive (CP) divisibility. Here, we analyze CP divisibility and check the validity of quantum regression beyond the Born-Markov approximation (e.g., the weak-coupling limit) for a class of generalized spin-boson models giving rise to a multilevel amplitude-damping evolution; in all cases, it is possible to engineer the system-bath coupling in such a way that quantum regression is exactly satisfied.

The weak coupling limit for Fermions

Luigi Accardi, A. Frigerio, Yun Gang Lu

It will be shown that, in the weak coupling limit, the matrix elements in the collective number vectors of the evolution in the interacting picture of a quantum system coupled to a quasifree Fermion bath with a laser type interaction, converge to the matrix elements in some number vectors, of a unitary quantum stochastic process satisfying a quantum stochastic differential equation driven by a Fermion Brownian motion with covariance uniquely determined by the initial Fermion bath.

The Quantum Weak Coupling Limit (II): Langevin Equation and Finite Temperature Case

Luigi Accardi, Alberto Frigerio, Yun Gang Lu

We complete the program started in [4] by proving that, in the weak coupling limit, the matrix elements, in the collective coherent vectors, of the Heisenberg evolved of an observable of a system coupled to a quasi-free reservoir through a laser type interaction, converge to the matrix elements of a quantum stochastic process satisfying a quantum Langevin equation driven by a quantum Brownian motion. Our results apply to an arbitrary quasi-free reservoir so, in particular, the finite temperature case is included.

Adjoint master equation for multitime correlators

Ivan V. Panyukov, Vladislav Yu. Shishkov, E. S. Andrianov

The quantum regression theorem is a powerful tool for calculating the multitime correlators of operators of open quantum systems whose dynamics can be described in Markovian approximation. However, the scope of the quantum regression theorem is limited by a particular time order of the operators in multitime correlators and does not include out-of-time-ordered correlators. In this work, we obtain an adjoint master equation for multitime correlators that applies to out-of-time-ordered correlators. We show that this equation can be derived for various approaches to the description of the dynamics of open quantum systems, such as the global or local approach. We show that the adjoint master equation for multitime correlators is self-consistent. Namely, the final equation does not depend on how the operators are grouped inside the correlator and it coincides with the quantum regression theorem for the particular time ordering of the operators.
