Abstract

From the recent research on combinational optimization of the knapsack problem, the quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (QGA) was proved to be better than conventional genetic algorithms. To accelerate the convergence speed of the QGA, the paper proposes research issues on QGA such as Q-gate. A novel Q-gate updating algorithm called chaos updating rotated gates quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (CQGA) is proposed. An analysis of the two main characters of quantum computing and chaos is also presented. This algorithm demonstrates the convergence of the quantum genetic algorithm (QGA). Several experiments are carried out on a class of numerical and combinatorial optimization problems. The results show the updated QGA makes QGA more powerful than the previous QGA in convergence speed.

Parallel quantum-inspired genetic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problem

Kuk-Hyun Han, Kui-Hong Park, Ci-Ho Lee +1 more

This paper proposes a new parallel evolutionary algorithm called parallel quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (PQGA). Quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (QGA) is based on the concept and principles of quantum computing such as qubits and superposition of states. Instead of binary, numeric, or symbolic representation, by adopting the qubit chromosome as a representation, QGA can represent a linear superposition of solutions due to its probabilistic representation. QGA is suitable for parallel structures because of rapid convergence and good global search capability. That is, QGA is able to possess the two characteristics of exploration and exploitation simultaneously. The effectiveness and the applicability of PQGA are demonstrated by experimental results on the knapsack problem, which is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. The results show that PQGA is superior to QGA as well as other conventional genetic algorithms.

Searching ability of qubit-inspired genetic algorithm

Noriyuki Muramoto, Nobuyuki Matsui, Teijiro Isokawa

Qubit-inspired Genetic Algorithm (QGA) is an extension of genetic algorithm in which quantum mechanics and its representations are introduced. A chromosome in our QGA is concretized as a series of quantum-bit (qubit) described by its complex-valued representation, and phase-rotation gates are embedded into the selection process over generations. In our previous work, it has been shown that this scheme has better performances than the classical ones in several problems such as N-K landscape problem, Knapsack Problem, Maximum Search, and Construction of image filters. In this paper, we make clear the effectiveness of the QGA by comparing QGA with GA through minimum solution problem on De Jong's functions.

Quantum-Inspired Evolutionary Algorithms With a New Termination Criterion, $H_epsilon $ Gate, and Two-Phase Scheme

K.-H. Han, J.-H. Kim

From recent research on combinatorial optimization of the knapsack problem, quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (QEA) was proved to be better than conventional genetic algorithms. To improve the performance of the QEA, this paper proposes research issues on QEA such as a termination criterion, a Q-gate, and a two-phase scheme, for a class of numerical and combinatorial optimization problems. A new termination criterion is proposed which gives a clearer meaning on the convergence of Q-bit individuals. A novel variation operator H/sub /spl epsi// gate, which is a modified version of the rotation gate, is proposed along with a two-phase QEA scheme based on the analysis of the effect of changing the initial conditions of Q-bits of the Q-bit individual in the first phase. To demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the updated QEA, several experiments are carried out on a class of numerical and combinatorial optimization problems. The results show that the updated QEA makes QEA more powerful than the previous QEA in terms of convergence speed, fitness, and robustness.

An Improved Quantum Genetic Algorithm of Quantum Revolving Gate

Yang Guo-weia

Aiming at the problems that the Quantum Genetic Algorithm(QGA) easily falls into local extremum,an improved QGA algorithm of quantum revolving gate is proposed. In order to achieve the goal of optimization solving, quantum bit probability amplitude is applied to the chromosome encoding, and quantum rotation gate is used to chromosome updating. The theoretical derivation proves that the proposed algorithm converges with probability 1,and the algorithm converges strongly to 1?e.Comparing with double QGA,simulation results show that the algorithm increases complexity, the average time extension, but convergence times increase, convergence times of the function 1 increases from 3 to 7,and convergence times of the function 2 increases from 8 to 9.

An Effective Hybrid Quantum Genetic Algorithm

Yinghua Li, Yuping Wang

It was indicated from the recent research that Quantum Genetic Algorithm(QGA) outperformed conventional genetic algorithm in its lower running time and ability of finding better solution when it solved a class of numerical and knapsack of combinatorial optimization problems. However, with qutbit of quantum individual interfering, parameter γ of the termination criterion is difficult to determine. The rotate gate which can promote the population is difficult to change its state of qutbit, and this phenomenon often induces premature. To improve the performance of the QGA,a controllable rotate gate and a new termination criterion are proposed in this paper. The controllable rotation gate can induce the convergence of qutbit not only to either 0 or 1,but also to either e or 1-e,and make the proposed algorithm to escape the local optimum.Based on gathering factor and qutbit convergence factor,a new termination criterion is proposed. The qutbit decreases the impact on parameter γ,and the new terminate criterion can efficiently control the relation of better solution and its running time.In addition, the Simplex method is introduced as a local searching scheme, which greatly improves the performance of algorithm. At last, the global convergence of the proposed algorithm is proved in theory, and comparable numerical experiments show that the proposed algorithm is more powerful than the compared algorithm in solution quality and speed.

A Novel Improved Quantum Genetic Algorithm for Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Xihua Zou

Based on quantum genetic algorithm(QGA),a novel improved quantum genetic algorithm(NIQGA)to solve combinatorial optimization problem is proposed. To make full use of interference and entanglement characteristics of quantum state, dynamic step length in adjustment of angle of quantum gate, quantum crossover operation and quantum mutation operation are introduced, therefore high efficiency for optimization is achieved. Two typical combinatorial optimization problems—0/1 knapsack problem and route selection problem, are adopted to confirm the performance of NIQGA.Experimental results show that compared with GA and QGA,NIQGA is characterized by fast convergence rate and excellent capability on global optimization, especially better performance for combinatorial optimization problem with less correlation of genes.
