Abstract

Quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (QGA) is applied to simulated annealing (SA) to develop a class of quantum-inspired simulated annealing genetic algorithm (QSAGA) for combinatorial optimization. With the condition of preserving QGA advantages, QSAGA takes advantage of the SA algorithm so as to avoid premature convergence. To demonstrate its effectiveness and applicability, experiments are carried out on the knapsack problem. The results show that QSAGA performs well, without premature convergence as compared to QGA.

Parallel quantum-inspired genetic algorithm for combinatorial optimization problem

Kuk-Hyun Han, Kui-Hong Park, Ci-Ho Lee +1 more

This paper proposes a new parallel evolutionary algorithm called parallel quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (PQGA). Quantum-inspired genetic algorithm (QGA) is based on the concept and principles of quantum computing such as qubits and superposition of states. Instead of binary, numeric, or symbolic representation, by adopting the qubit chromosome as a representation, QGA can represent a linear superposition of solutions due to its probabilistic representation. QGA is suitable for parallel structures because of rapid convergence and good global search capability. That is, QGA is able to possess the two characteristics of exploration and exploitation simultaneously. The effectiveness and the applicability of PQGA are demonstrated by experimental results on the knapsack problem, which is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. The results show that PQGA is superior to QGA as well as other conventional genetic algorithms.

Quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm for a class of combinatorial optimization

Kuk-Hyun Han, Jong-Hwan Kim

This paper proposes a novel evolutionary algorithm inspired by quantum computing, called a quantum-inspired evolutionary algorithm (QEA), which is based on the concept and principles of quantum computing, such as a quantum bit and superposition of states. Like other evolutionary algorithms, QEA is also characterized by the representation of the individual, evaluation function, and population dynamics. However, instead of binary, numeric, or symbolic representation, QEA uses a Q-bit, defined as the smallest unit of information, for the probabilistic representation and a Q-bit individual as a string of Q-bits. A Q-gate is introduced as a variation operator to drive the individuals toward better solutions. To demonstrate its effectiveness and applicability, experiments were carried out on the knapsack problem, which is a well-known combinatorial optimization problem. The results show that QEA performs well, even with a small population, without premature convergence as compared to the conventional genetic algorithm.

A Survey of Quantum Genetic Algorithm for Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Feng Mei Wei, Jian Pei Zhang, Bing Li +1 more

Combined with quantum computing and genetic algorithm, quantum genetic algorithm (QGA) shows considerable ability of parallelism. Experiments have shown that QGA performs quite well on TSP, job shop problem and some other typical combinatorial optimization problems. The other problems like nutritional diet which can be transformed into specific combinational optimization problem also can be solved through QGA smoothly. This paper sums up the main points of QGA for general combinatorial optimization problems. These points such as modeling of the problem, qubit decoding and rotation strategy are useful to enhance the convergence speed of QGA and avoid premature at the same time.

A Novel Improved Quantum Genetic Algorithm for Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Based on quantum genetic algorithm(QGA),a novel improved quantum genetic algorithm(NIQGA)to solve combinatorial optimization problem is proposed. To make full use of interference and entanglement characteristics of quantum state, dynamic step length in adjustment of angle of quantum gate, quantum crossover operation and quantum mutation operation are introduced, therefore high efficiency for optimization is achieved. Two typical combinatorial optimization problems—0/1 knapsack problem and route selection problem, are adopted to confirm the performance of NIQGA.Experimental results show that compared with GA and QGA,NIQGA is characterized by fast convergence rate and excellent capability on global optimization, especially better performance for combinatorial optimization problem with less correlation of genes.

Adaptive Quantum Inspired Genetic Algorithm for Combinatorial Optimization Problems

Jyoti Chaturvedi

The development in the field of quantum computing gives us a significant edge over classical computing in terms of time and efficiency. This is particularly useful for NP-hard problems such as graph layout problems.Since many real world problems are effectively solved by genetic algorithm (GA) and the performance of GA highly depends upon the setting of its parameters, therefore this paper focuses on a Quantum Inspired Genetic Algorithm (QIGA) and develops and evaluates adaptive strategies for the same.QIGA adapts ideas of Q-bits, superposition of Q-bits from quantum computing. The effectiveness and the applicability of adaptive QIGA is demonstrated by experimental results on the benchmark Knapsack, Maxcut and Onemax combinatorial optimization problems. The results show that adaptive QIGA is superior to QIGAs.
