Uncertainty relations for sets of self adjoint operators

Abstract

Abstract Uncertainty relations quantify the joint localisation in time respectively space domain and Fourier domain. For that reason they are an important tool in the design of wavelets. Uncertainty relations in higher dimension are most often realized as the tensor product of one dimensional uncertainty relations, whence these uncertainty relations are not invariant under rotations. The property of invariance with respect to rotation is however very desirable for image processing. We will give a new uncertainty relation for sets of self‐adjoint operators that yields the desired invariance in many examples. (© 2011 Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

On operators providing shift-invariant uncertainty limit

Milos I. Doroslovacki

The uncertainty relation is introduced by using operators which are not necessarily self-adjoint. In general, the uncertainty (lower) limit is different for different functions. Operators are found that define the second moments and the uncertainty limit for their product such that the limit is the same for functions obtained from each other by applying unitary support-size preserving operators, e.g. by shifting in time and frequency. In this case, for all functions of finite energy the limit is related to the minimum support size in the time-frequency domain. Moreover, it is possible to find the discrete-time counterpart of the classical uncertainty relation for continuous-time functions. The operator calculus presents results from signal analysis in a more standard form extensively used in quantum mechanics.

Green's function and excitation spectrum of finite lattices

S. Cojocaru, Victor Bârsan, Arnout Jozef Ceulemans

Abstract New analytical results are obtained for the Green's function of a finite one‐dimensional lattice with nearest neighbor interaction using discrete Fourier transform. The method offers an alternative to the Bethe Ansatz, but does not require any a priori assumption on the form of the wavefunction. This makes it suitable for extensions to nano‐ferromagnets of higher dimensions. Solutions of the Heisenberg spin chain with periodic and open boundary conditions are considered as examples. A proposal of quantization in flat space‐time with a minimal length present

Peter Oto Hess

Abstract The 4‐dimensional space‐time is extended to pseudo‐complex coordinates. Proposing the standard quantization rules in this extended space, the ones for the 4‐dimensional sub‐space acquire, as one solution, the commutation relations with non‐commuting coordinates. This demonstrates that the algebraic extension keeps the simple structure of Quantum Mechanics, while it also introduces an effective quite involved structure in the 4‐dimensional sub‐space. The first steps to pseudo‐complex Quantum Mechanics in 1‐dimension are outlined, awaiting still the interpretation of some new emerging structures. (© 2015 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Generalizations of the Heisenberg and Schrödinger uncertainty relations

Yan-Ni Dou, Hong-Ke Du

In this paper, releasing the restriction on operators which are self-adjoint, we propose a Heisenberg-type uncertainty relation and a Schrödinger-type uncertainty relation with any pair of operators on a Hilbert space. A generalization of Luo's theorem [S. Luo, “Heisenberg uncertainty relation for mixed states,” Phys. Rev. A 72, 042110 (2005)] is investigated.

Quantum gambling using mesoscopic ring qubits

Ireneusz Pakuła

Abstract Quantum Game Theory provides us with new tools for practising games and some other risk related enterprices like, for example, gambling. The two party gambling protocol presented by Goldenberg et al. is one of the simplest yet still hard to implementapplications of Quantum Game Theory. We propose potential physical realisation of the quantum gambling protocol with use of three mesoscopic ring qubits. We point out problems in implementation of such game.
