High-resolution Cs133 6S–6D, 6S–8S two-photon spectroscopy using an intracavity scheme

You-Huan Chen, Tze-Wei Liu, Chien‐Ming Wu +3 more

This Letter presents an intracavity scheme for diode laser based two-photon spectroscopy. To demonstrate generality, three (133)Cs hyperfine transition groups of different wavelengths are shown. For the 6S-6D transitions, we achieved a 10(2) times better signal-to-noise ratio than in previous work [J. Phys. Soc. Jpn. 74, 2487 (2005)] with 10(-3) times less laser power, revealing some previously vague and unobserved spectra. Possible mutual influences between the two-photon absorber and laser cavity were investigated for the first time to our knowledge, which leads to the application of a reliable hand-sized optical frequency reference. Our approach is applicable for most of the two-photon spectroscopy of alkali atoms.

[Study of resonance exchange collisions in cesium vapour by optical-optical double resonance spectroscopy].

Shuying Wang, Baoxia Mu, Xiu-hua Cui +4 more

An experimental study of cesium resonance exchange collision, Cs(6P(3/2), v) + Cs(6S(1/2), v')-->Cs(6S(1/2), v) + Cs (6P(3/2), v'), was carried out. Populations of excited atoms that all have the same z component of velocity were produced by pumping a vapor with a narrow-band laser. A counterpropagating single-mode diode laser was used to probe the excited atom velocity distribution in the 6P(3/2)-->8S(1/2) transition. Fluorescence was monitored in the 8S(1/2)-->6P(3/2) transition. The magnitude of the thermalizinng effect of resonance exchange collisions was estimated by measuring the ratio of the intensity in the narrow features to that associated with the Doppler pedestals. The rate coefficient of 9.62 x 10(-7) cm3 x s(-1) for the resonance exchange collisions was yielded. This work demonstrates that, in a pure metal vapor, the thermalization of velocity-selected excited-atom distribution by the mechanism of resonance exchange can be three orders of magnitude greater than that from velocity-changing collisions.

Interaction among different Rydberg series of the europium atom

Xi Wang, Shen Li, Dai Chang-Jian

The spectra of 4f76p1/2(J = 3 or 4)8s, 4f76p1/2(J = 3 or 4)6d and 4f75dnl autoionizing states of the europium atom are investigated using the resonance-ionization spectroscopy method via the same intermediate state, 4f76s(9S4o)8s 8S7/2. The profound interaction among different Rydberg series is observed in this work. The fingerprints of the 4f75d(7D)n′l′ series are identified from the complex structures of autoionization spectra of the 4f76p1/2(J = 3 or 4)8s and 4f76p1/2(J = 3 or 4)6d states. The information of these autoionizing states, such as their level energy, line width, is also provided.
