Probability Measures and Logical Connectives on Quantum Logics

Oľga Nánásiová, L’ubica Valášková, Viera Čerňanová

The present paper is devoted to modelling of a probability measure of logical connectives on a quantum logic via a G-map, which is a special map on it.We follow the work in which the probability of logical conjunction (AND), disjunction (OR), symmetric difference (XOR) and their negations for non-compatible propositions are studied. Now we study all remaining cases of G-maps on quantum logic, namely a probability measure of projections, of implications, and of their negations. We show that unlike classical (Boolean) logic, probability measures of projections on a quantum logic are not necessarilly pure projections. We indicate how it is possible to define a probability measure of implication using a G-map in the quantum logic, and then we study some properties of this measure which are different from a measure of implication in a Boolean algebra. Finally, we compare the properties of a G-map with the properties of a probability measure related to logical connectives on a Boolean algebra.

Analogue of the quantum total probability rule from Paraconsistent bayesian probability theory

R. Salazar, Cristian Ignacio Jara-Figueroa, A. Delgado

We derive an analogue of the quantum total probability rule by constructing a probability theory based on paraconsistent logic. Bayesian probability theory is constructed upon classical logic and a desiderata, that is, a set of desired properties that the theory must obey. We construct a new probability theory following the desiderata of Bayesian probability theory but replacing the classical logic by paraconsistent logic. This class of logic has been conceived to handle eventual inconsistencies or contradictions among logical propositions without leading to the trivialisation of the theory. Within this Paraconsistent bayesian probability theory it is possible to deduce a new total probability rule which depends on the probabilities assigned to the inconsistencies. Certain assignments of values for these probabilities lead to expressions identical to those of Quantum mechanics, in particular to the quantum total probability rule obtained via symmetric informationally complete positive- operator valued measure.

Logical Entropy: Introduction to Classical and Quantum Logical Information Theory

David Ellerman

Logical information theory is the quantitative version of the logic of partitions just as logical probability theory is the quantitative version of the dual Boolean logic of subsets. The resulting notion of information is about distinctions, differences and distinguishability and is formalized using the distinctions ("dits") of a partition (a pair of points distinguished by the partition). All the definitions of simple, joint, conditional and mutual entropy of Shannon information theory are derived by a uniform transformation from the corresponding definitions at the logical level. The purpose of this paper is to give the direct generalization to quantum logical information theory that similarly focuses on the pairs of eigenstates distinguished by an observable, i.e., qudits of an observable. The fundamental theorem for quantum logical entropy and measurement establishes a direct quantitative connection between the increase in quantum logical entropy due to a projective measurement and the eigenstates (cohered together in the pure superposition state being measured) that are distinguished by the measurement (decohered in the post-measurement mixed state). Both the classical and quantum versions of logical entropy have simple interpretations as "two-draw" probabilities for distinctions. The conclusion is that quantum logical entropy is the simple and natural notion of information for quantum information theory focusing on the distinguishing of quantum states.
