Abstract

We propose the model of one-dimensional polaritonic lattice representing the chain of weakly coupled optical nano-cavities, each containing clusters of qubits. We revealed a variety of both localized and spreading dynamical regimes. We suggest a new physical algorithm for the spatially distributed storage of optical information where various localized dynamical states are used.

LOCALIZED STATES AND STORAGE OF OPTICAL INFORMATION UNDER THE QUBIT-LIGHT INTERACTION IN MICRO-SIZE CAVITY ARRAYS

Evgeny S. Sedov, Sergei M Arakelyan, A. P. Alodjants

We suggest the model of lattice low branch (LB) polaritons based on the array of weakly coupled microsize cavities, each containing a small but macroscopic number of two-level systems (qubits). We reveal various dynamical regimes, such as diffusive, self-trapped, breathing and solitonic for polariton wave packet propagation under tight-binding approximation. We focus our attention on the bright polariton soliton formation in a high quality cavity array emerging due to two-body polariton-polariton scattering processes that take place at each cavity under the qubit-light interaction. A physical algorithm for the spatially distributed storage of optical information where various dynamical LB polariton soliton states are used is proposed. This algorithm can be realized with the help of manipulating group velocity of a polariton soliton in the cavity array and obtained by smooth variation of qubit-light detuning.

Tunneling-assisted optical information storage with lattice polariton solitons in cavity-QED arrays

Evgeny S. Sedov, A. P. Alodjants, Sergei M Arakelyan +4 more

Considering two-level media in the array of weakly coupled nanocavities, we reveal a variety of dynamical regimes, such as diffusion, self-trapping, soliton, and breathers for the wave packets in the presence of photon tunneling processes between the next-nearest cavities. We focus our attention on the low-branch bright polariton soliton formation, due to the two-body polariton-polariton scattering processes. When detuning frequency is manipulated adiabatically, the low-branch lattice polariton localized states, i.e., solitons and breathers evolving between photonlike and matterlike states, are shown to act as carriers for spatially distributed storage and retrieval of optical information.

Phase transition and storage of quantum optical information in spatially periodical atomic structure

Igor O. Barinov, Eugenii S. Sedov, A. P. Alodjants +1 more

A new developed for storing quantum information on atomic polaritons being at thermal equilibrium is developed for the first time. We propose a new type of spatially periodic structure - polaritonic crystal (PolC) formed by trapped two-level atoms interacting with quantum electromagnetic field in one-dimensional array of tunnelcoupled microcavities, which allows polaritons to be fully localized. The quantum degeneracy and phase transition to superfluid (Bardeen-Cooper-Schrieffer-type) state for low branch polaritons is discussed. The principal result is that the group velocity of polaritons depends essentially on the order parameter of the system, i.e. on the average photon number in the cavity array. An algorithm for the spatially distributed writing, storing, and retrieving of quantum optical information using polariton wave packet propagated in the cavity array is examined. To take into account decoherence processes in polaritonic system the quantum Brownian particle model is discussed as well.

Quantum Information Processing in An Array of Fiber Coupled Cavities

Jian Li, Zou Jian, Bin Shao

We consider a fiber coupled cavity array. Each cavity is doped with a single two-level atom. By treating the atom-cavity systems as combined polaritonic qubits, we can transform it into a polaritonic qubit-qubit array in the dispersive regime. We show that the four fiber coupled cavity open chain and ring can both generate the four qubit W state and cluster state, and can both transfer one and two qubit arbitrary states. We also discuss the dynamical behaviors of the four fiber coupled cavity array with unequal couplings.

Excitation of coherent polaritons in a two-dimensional atomic lattice

I O Barinov, A P Alodzhants, Sergei M Arakelyan

We describe a new type of spatially periodic structure (lattice models): a polaritonic crystal formed by a two-dimensional lattice of trapped two-level atoms interacting with the electromagnetic field in a cavity (or in a one-dimensional array of tunnelling-coupled microcavities), which allows polaritons to be fully localised. Using a one-dimensional polaritonic crystal as an example, we analyse conditions for quantum degeneracy of a lower-polariton gas and those for quantum optical information recording and storage.

Solitons in cavity-QED arrays containing interacting qubits

I-H. Chen, Y. Y. Lin, Y.-C. Lai +4 more

We reveal the existence of polariton soliton solutions in the array of weakly coupled optical cavities, each containing an ensemble of interacting qubits. An effective, complex Ginzburg-Landau equation is derived in the continuum limit, taking into account the effects of cavity field dissipation and qubit dephasing. We have shown that an enhancement of the induced nonlinearity can be achieved by two orders of magnitude with negative interaction strength, which implies a large negative qubit-field detuning as well. Bright solitons are found to be supported under perturbations only in the upper (optical) branch of polaritons, for which the corresponding group velocity is controlled by tuning the interacting strength. With the help of perturbation theory for solitons, we also demonstrate that the group velocity of these polariton solitons is suppressed by the diffusion process.
