Abstract

A dipolar coupled spin system can achieve internal thermodynamic equilibrium states at negative absolute temperature. We study analytically and numerically the temperature dependence of the concurrence in a dipolar coupled spin-1/2 system in both nonzero and zero fields and show that, at negative temperatures, entangled states can exist even in zero magnetic field.

Quantum entanglement at negative temperature

G. B. Furman, V. Meerovich, Vladimir Sokolovsky

An isolated spin system that is in internal thermodynamic equilibrium and that has an upper limit to its allowed energy states can possess a negative temperature. We calculate the thermodynamic characteristics and the concurrence in this system over the entire range of positive and negative temperatures. Our calculation was performed for different real structures, which can be used in experiments. It is found that the temperature dependence of the concurrence is substantially asymmetrical similarly to other thermodynamic characteristics. At a negative temperature the maximum concurrence and the absolute temperature of the entanglement appearance are significantly larger than those at a positive temperature. The concurrence can be characterized by two dimensionless parameters: the ratio between the Zeeman and dipolar energies and the ratio of the thermal and dipolar energies. It was shown that for all considered structures the dimensionless temperatures of the transition between entanglement and separability of the first and second spins are independent of spin structure and the number of spins.

Adiabatic demagnetization at absolute negative temperature: Generation of quantum correlations

G. B. Furman, S. D. Goren, V. Meerovich +1 more

In this paper, we study behavior of the correlations, both quantum and classical, under adiabatic demagnetization process in systems of nuclear spins with dipole–dipole interactions in an external magnetic field and in the temperature range including positive and negative temperatures. For a two-spin system, analytical expressions for the quantum and classical correlations are obtained. It is revealed that the field dependences of the quantum and classical correlations at positive and negative temperatures are substantially different. This difference most clearly appears in the case of zero magnetic field: at negative temperature, the measures of quantum correlations tend to the maximum values with a temperature increase. At positive temperature, these quantities tend to zero at a decrease of magnetic field. It is also found that, for the nearest-neighboring spins in the same field, the values of concurrence and discord are larger at negative temperatures than at positive ones.

Entanglement in the XZ spin chain model in the external magnetic field

F. Soheilian, Mohammad Reza Soltani, M Firoozi +1 more

The entanglement at zero-temperature is studied in a two-qubit XZ spin-1/2 chain model in an external magnetic field which is applied in the z direction. We have obtained an analytical relation for the effect of the external magnetic field on the concurrence. It is shown that the ground state of the system depends on the strength of exchange coupling. We have shown that the analytical relation of the concurrence is independent of Jz. It is shown that for Jz >0 the concurrence is depended on the critical value of the external magnetic field and it is changed at the critical external magnetic field. Also we have shown that for h hc, the concurrence decreases by increasing the external magnetic field. For Jz <0, the concurrence decreases by increasing the external magnetic field.

THERMAL ENTANGLEMENT IN SPIN SYSTEMS

N. Canosa, R. Rossignoli

We examine the entanglement of thermal states of n spins interacting through an XYZ type Heisenberg coupling in the presence of a uniform magnetic field, by evaluating the negativities of bipartite partitions of the whole system and subsystems. The corresponding limit temperatures for entanglement are also examined. Results indicate that limit temperatures for global entanglement depend on the type of partition and are higher than those limiting pairwise entanglement, and that their behavior with anisotropy and applied magnetic field may differ significantly from that of the corresponding mean field critical temperature.

Global thermal entanglement in n -qubit systems

R. Rossignoli, N. Canosa

We examine the entanglement of thermal states of $n$ spins interacting through different types of $XY$ couplings in the presence of a uniform magnetic field, by evaluating the negativities of all possible bipartite partitions of the whole system and of subsystems. We consider both the case where every qubit interacts with all others and where just nearest neighbors interact in a one-dimensional chain. Limit temperatures for nonzero negativities are also evaluated and compared with the mean field critical temperature. It is shown that limit temperatures of global negativities are strictly independent of the magnetic field in all $XXZ$ models, in spite of the quantum transitions that these models may exhibit at zero temperature, while in anisotropic models they always increase for sufficiently large fields. Results also show that these temperatures are higher than those limiting pairwise entanglement.
