Giant nonlinearities via simultaneous electromagnetically- and self-induced transparencies in doped photonic crystals

Gershon Kurizki, David Petrosyan

This paper studies a strong modulation of the phase of a weak pulse subject to electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT) by a control pulse in the form of an self-induced transparency (SIT) gap soliton (GS) moving at the same slow velocity. The aim of this work is to match the group velocities of the weak probe field subject to EIT and the free-propagating field having the form of a slow SIT GS.

Controlling the One-Dimensional Photonic Crystal Bandgap Structures Via Manipulation of Electromagnetically Induced Transparency Atomic Vapor

Xu Sen

Using the Transfer matrix method to reserch the one-dimensional photonic crystal bandgap structure which is made of electromagnetically induced transparency atomic vapor. The results show that the photonic crystal bandgap can be manipulated by varying the refractive index of electromagnetically induced transparency atomic vapor. The EIT atomic vapor relative refractive index gradually increasing with the Rabi frequency. With the Rabi frequency gradually increasing, the band gap of the photonic crystal becomes more and more narrow, but the change is becoming slower.

Additional one-photon coherence-induced transparency in a Doppler-broadened V-type system

M. Anil Kumar, Suneel Pratap Singh

We illustrate an alternate mechanism which causes probe transparency in a Doppler-broadened V-type system. Our numerical results obtained for very low control field amplitudes clearly indicate the feasibility of attaining nearly perfect probe transparency that originates from an additional one-photon coherence induced by the control field in a Doppler-broadened V-type system. In this regime of control field amplitudes, the criterion for electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) is not fulfilled and hence the contribution of the usual EIT term is found to be negligible.
