CCD-based detection of quantum spatial correlation of twin beams for high-sensitivity imaging

Ottavia Jedrkiewicz, Gabriel Molina‐Terriza, E. Brambilla +4 more

We review and compare the results of quantum spatial correlation measurements in parametric down-conversion in the high-gain pulsed regime, with preliminary measurements performed in the low-gain cw-pumped regime. The diagnostics is based on a high quantum efficiency CCD camera, and in the second case the radiation pattern is recorded after temporal integration of the "single-photon" spatial distribution. The effect of the detected number of temporal modes on the accessibility of the sub-shot noise regime is discussed, together with the identification of suitable regimes for weak image detection.

Real-Time Quadrature Measurement of a Single-Photon Wave Packet with Continuous Temporal-Mode Matching

Hisashi Ogawa, Hideaki Ohdan, Kazunori Miyata +5 more

Real-time controls based on quantum measurements are powerful tools for various quantum protocols. However, their experimental realization has been limited by mode mismatch between the temporal mode of quadrature measurement and that heralded by photon detection. Here, we demonstrate real-time quadrature measurement of a single-photon wave packet induced by photon detection by utilizing continuous temporal-mode matching between homodyne detection and an exponentially rising temporal mode. Single photons in exponentially rising modes are also expected to be useful resources for interactions with other quantum systems.

Two-mode homodyne tomography of time-encoded single-photon ebits

We have developed a technique for dual-temporal-mode, ultrafast, time-domain, balanced homodyne detection. We have tested it by performing homodyne measurements on pairs of picosecond-duration temporal modes (or “time bins”) carrying a delocalized single photon. The experimental homodyne data have been used to reconstruct both the density matrix and the two-mode Wigner function of the delocalized state, thus showing the correlations existing between the pair of temporal modes carrying the single photon.
