Abstract

On the basis of analytical transfer matrix theory, we fine a generalized quantization condition. By introducing a new type of modified momentum, our quantization condition has the same form as the Bohr–Sommerfeld formula. Numerical and analytical comparisons show that the present method is exact.

AN IMPLICIT SPECTRAL FORMULA FOR GENERALIZED LINEAR SCHRÖDINGER EQUATIONS

Axel Schulze‐Halberg, Jesús García‐Ravelo, José Juan Peña Gil

We generalize the semiclassical Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization rule to an exact, implicit spectral formula for linear, generalized Schrödinger equations admitting a discrete spectrum. Special cases include the position-dependent mass Schrödinger equation or the Schrödinger equation for weighted energy. Requiring knowledge of the potential and the solution associated with the lowest spectral value, our formula predicts the complete spectrum in its exact form.

Bohr-Sommerfeld-Heisenberg Theory in Geometric Quantization

Richard H. Cushman, Jędrzej Śniatycki

In the framework of geometric quantization we extend the Bohr-Sommerfeld rules to a full quantization theory which resembles Heisenberg's matrix theory. This extension is possible because Bohr-Sommerfeld rules not only provide an orthogonal basis in the space of quantum states, but also give a lattice structure to this basis. This permits the definition of appropriate shifting operators. As examples, we discuss the 1-dimensional harmonic oscillator and the coadjoint orbits of the rotation group.

On Wentzel’s proof of the quantization condition for a single-well potential

Nanny Fröman, Per Olof Fröman

Wentzel’s elegant method for deriving the quantal generalization of the Sommerfeld quantization condition, which has been criticized by other authors, is justified and put on an irrefutable basis. Clarifying comments on some questions related to the discussion in the present paper are also made.

A new approach to bound states in potential wells

A method for calculating the energies of the bound states of a particle in a potential well is presented. A generalization of the Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization rule is obtained.

On phase-integral quantization conditions for bound states in one-dimensional smooth single-well potentials

Nanny Fröman, Per Olof Fröman

Previous work by the present authors on phase-integral quantization conditions for single-well potentials is extended and generalized. Exact as well as approximate quantization conditions are considered and investigated more fully than previously. Not only their necessity but also their sufficiency is treated. An improvement of the estimate of the error of the generalized quantal Bohr–Sommerfeld quantization condition is also given.
