Abstract

We evaluate the Feynman propagator for the harmonic oscillator in one dimension. Considering the ladder operators for the Hamiltonian of this system, we construct a set of operators which satisfy the su(2) Lie algebra to obtain Mehler's formula.

Algebraic approach to a harmonic oscillator plus an inverse squared potential and its recurrence relation

Shishan Dong, Shi‐Hai Dong, Marcelo Lozada‐Cassou

We present exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation with a harmonic oscillator plus an inverse squared potential in arbitrary dimensions. The ladder operators for the radial wavefunctions are established by the factorization method. We find that those operators together with satisfy the commutation relation of the generators of an su(1, 1) algebra. Some comments are made on the general calculation formula for off-diagonal matrix elements and the recurrence relation among them. Also, we show that this anharmonic oscillator possesses a hidden symmetry between E ( r ) and E (i r ) by substituting r → i r .

Schwinger Method and Feynman Path Integral for a Harmonic Oscillator with Mass Growing with Time

Surarit Pepore, Bodinchat Sukbot

The exact propagator for a harmonic oscillator with mass growing like m(1+ατ )2 where m and α are constants and τ is time, is derived by the Schwinger method and the Feynman path integral. In the Schwinger formalism, the propagator can be calculated by basic operator algebra and elementary integrations. In the Feynman path integral method, it can be shown that such a propagator can be evaluated from that for a classical action with the application of a Pauli-Van Vleck formula.

An Algebraic Approach to the Harmonic Oscillator Plus an Inverse Square Potential in Three Dimensions

Shi‐Hai Dong, M. Lozada-Cas

The eigenfunctions and eigenvalues of the three-dimensional Schrödinger equation with a harmonic oscillator plus an inverse square interaction are obtained. A realization of the ladder operators for the wave functions is studied. It is found that these operators satisfy the commutation relations of an SU(1,1) group. The closed analytical expressions for the matrix elements of different functions ρ and ρd/dρ with ρ = r 2 are evaluated. Finite su()-oscillator; applications to signal processing

Luis Edgar Vicent

The one-dimensional finite oscillator model satisfies that under commutator brackets, all operators close into the (dynamical) Lie algebra su(2); therefore the eigenvalues of position, momentum and energy operators are discrete and the eigenvalue of a compact u(l) central operator fixes the dimension of the su(2) representation. In this work we review the one-dimensional finite oscillator model with u(2) as the dynamical algebra where the wave functions, which involve Kravchuk polynomials, are discrete functions of angular momentum theory.

AN ALGEBRAIC APPROACH TO A HARMONIC OSCILLATOR PLUS AN INVERSE SQUARE POTENTIAL IN TWO DIMENSIONS

Shi‐Hai Dong, Guo-Hua Sun, Marcelo Lozada‐Cassou

The exact solutions of the Schrödinger equation with a harmonic oscillator plus an inverse square potential are obtained in two dimensions. We construct the ladder operators directly from the radial wave functions and find that these operators satisfy the commutation relations of an SU (1, 1) group. We obtain the explicit expressions of the matrix elements for some related functions ρ and [Formula: see text] with ρ = r2. We also explore another symmetry between the eigenvalues E(r) and E(ir) by substituting r→ir.

An elementary derivation of the harmonic oscillator propagator

L. Moriconi

The harmonic oscillator propagator is found straightforwardly from the free particle propagator within the imaginary-time Feynman path integral formalism. The derivation is simple, and requires only elementary mathematical manipulations and no clever use of Hermite polynomials, annihilation and creation operators, cumbersome determinant evaluations, or involved algebra.
