Effects of Disorder on Superfluidity in the Attractive Hubbard Model

Abstract

We study the effects of disorder on an \(s\)-wave superfluid in the attractive Hubbard model using statistical dynamical mean-field theory, which enables us to treat both the correlation effects and the spatial nonuniformity due to disorder in the same framework. The distribution functions of the local density of states and the superfluid order parameter are obtained. From the geometrical average of these quantities, which characterizes the order parameters in disordered systems, we determine the ground-state phase diagram of the attractive Hubbard model with disorder at half-filling and zero temperature. We discuss the superfluid-localization transition and the crossover behavior within the localized phase.

Disorder-induced charge-density-wave–superfluid transition in SU(N) Fermi systems

Masaru Sakaida, Norio Kawakami

We investigate $\mathrm{SU}(N)$ attractive Fermi systems with disorder using a Bogoliubov-de Gennes method at zero temperature with particular focus on the SU(3) case. The charge correlation function, the distribution function of the superfluid (SF) order parameter, and the free energy are calculated for a two-dimensional square lattice system at half filling. From the disorder average of these quantities, we find that disorder triggers a transition from the charge-density-wave (CDW) phase to the SF phase; disorder suppresses the CDW order, making the SF state stable. This disorder-driven phase transition is of first order and is unique for SU(3) systems; it has not been observed for the disordered SU(2) systems studied so far. We elucidate the properties of the CDW-SF transition from the disorder-averaged density of states and the distribution function of the particle density and thus obtain the ground-state phase diagram. We also address the SU(4) case and find that the CDW state is driven directly to the Anderson localized state, but the SF phase is not stabilized. We argue what will be expected for generic $N$ cases.

Influence of Coulomb disorder on the phase diagrams of the Anderson-Hubbard model

Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, Hoàng Anh Tuấn, Le Duc Anh

Abstract We study the half-filled Hubbard model with Anderson and Coulomb disorder by mean of dynamical mean field theory using the geometrically averaged local density of states. The paramagnetic phase diagram of the model as a function of the Coulomb interaction and Anderson disorder strength is obtained. The spectral phase diagrams of the ground states for the model are also constructed and discussed. We show that in the intermediate and strong interaction regimes, the Coulomb disorder leads the metallic and Mott insulator phase regions shrink, while the Anderson insulator region is enlarged.

Effect of disorder on charge-density wave and superconducting order in the half-filled attractive Hubbard model

Carey Huscroft, Richard T. Scalettar

The half-filled attractive Hubbard model exhibits a simultaneous charge-density wave and superconducting order in its ground state. In this paper we use approximation-free quantum Monte Carlo techniques to explore the effect of disorder in the site energies on this degeneracy. We find that superconducting order survives randomness out to a critical amount of disorder, but charge ordering is immediately destroyed. This settles the issue as to whether disordered site energies, which do not break time-reversal invariance, can destroy pairing correlations. We also locate the precise ratio of disorder to bandwidth required for the disorder-driven transition from the superconducting state. We explore the validity of a strong-coupling picture which maps the system onto a Heisenberg model in a random magnetic field.

Ground-state properties of the disordered spin-1 Bose-Hubbard model: A stochastic mean-field theory study

J.H. Warnes, E. Miranda

We study the ground state of the disordered Bose-Hubbard model for spin-1 particles by means of the stochastic mean-field theory. This approach enables the determination of the probability distributions of various physical quantities, such as the superfluid order parameter, the average site occupation number, the standard deviation of the occupation per site and the square of the spin operator per site. We show how a stochastic method, previously used in the study of localization, can be flexibly used to solve the relevant equations with great accuracy. We have determined the phase diagram, which exhibits three phases: the polar superfluid, the Mott insulating, and the Bose glass. A complete characterization of the physical properties of these phases has been established.

Spontaneously Symmetry-Breaking States in the Attractive SU(N) Hubbard Model

Akihisa Koga, Hiromasa Yanatori

We investigate spontaneously symmetry breaking states in the attractive SU($N$) Hubbard model at half filling. Combining dynamical mean-field theory with the continuous-time quantum Monte Carlo method, we obtain the finite temperature phase diagrams for the superfluid state. When $N>2$, the second-order phase transition occurs in the weak coupling region, while the first-order phase transition with the hysteresis appears in the strong coupling region. We also discuss the stability of the density wave state and clarify the component dependence of the maximum critical temperature.

DMFT+Σ approach to disordered hubbard model

E. Z. Kuchinskii, M. V. Sadovskii

We briefly review the generalized dynamic mean-field theory DMFT+Σ applied to both repulsive and attractive disordered Hubbard models. We examine the general problem of metal–insulator transition and the phase diagram in the repulsive case, as well as the BCS–BEC crossover region of the attractive model, demonstrating a certain universality of single-electron properties under disordering in both models. We also discuss and compare the results for the density of states and dynamic conductivity in the repulsive and attractive cases and the generalized Anderson theorem behavior of the superconducting critical temperature in the disordered attractive case. A brief discussion of the behavior of Ginzburg–Landau coefficients under disordering in the BCS–BEC crossover region is also presented.
