Electronic noise-free measurements of squeezed light

We study the implementation of a correlation measurement technique for the characterization of squeezed light. We show that the sign of the covariance coefficient revealed from the time-resolved correlation data allow us to distinguish among squeezed, coherent, and thermal states. In contrast to the traditional method of characterizing squeezed light, involving measurement of the variation of the difference photocurrent, the correlation measurement method allows one to eliminate the contribution of the electronic noise, which becomes a crucial issue in experiments with dim sources of squeezed light.

Thermal Coherent States and Thermal Squeezed States

Various definitions of thermal coherent states and thermal squeezed states are compared and interrelated. Different ordering of squeezing, displacement and thermalizing operators is discussed in order to establish a relation between all definitions. A one-to-one correspondence is exhibited between general Gaussian density matrices in coordinate space and thermal squeezed states.

Preparing superposition of squeezed coherent states under thermal reservoir

José S. Sales, L. F. da Silva, N. G. de Almeida

We propose a scheme for engineering a superposition of squeezed coherent states into a lossy cavity and study its evolution under the influence of a thermal reservoir, providing analytical results for the Wigner function as well as for the Glauber–Sudarshan P function. To characterize this state, we study both the fidelity and the atomic inversion for several parameters, including some parameters taken out from recent experiments in cavity QED.
