Rigorous Estimates for Correlation Functions and Existence of Phase Transitions in Some Models of Interacting Bosons

Abstract

Using the so-called method of infrared bounds and a Roepstorff's inequality we obtain a lower bound for the amount of condensate and derive an upper bound for the anomalous average [Formula: see text] of Huang–Davies (HD) model. A lower bound for the static structure factor is also obtained. We generalize the HD model and prove the existence of Bose condensation for this kind of model systems. Finally we derived upper and lower bounds for correlation functions associated to a system of Fermi-particles interacting with a field of phonons.

STUDY OF A NON-INTERACTING BOSON GAS

M. Corgini, Дмитрий Петрович Санкович

For a non-interacting many particle Bose system whose energy operator is diagonal in the number of occupation operators [Formula: see text] upper bounds on the thermal averages [Formula: see text] are obtained. These bounds lead to the proof of Bose–Einstein condensation for finite values of the inverse temperature β and for chemical potential μ=0. Finally for μ<0, in the case of a generalization of the studied model system, the property of Local Gaussian Domination for the grand canonical partition function is proved.

UPPER BOUND ON THE TWO-POINT CORRELATION FUNCTION OF A SYSTEM OF COUPLED ANHARMONIC OSCILLATORS

Nikolay N. Bogolubov, Дмитрий Петрович Санкович

A quantum system of coupled anharmonic oscillators on v-dimensional hypercubic lattice is considered. The upper bound on the pair correlator is obtained. For the representation of creation-annihilation operators this system corresponds to a lattice boson gas model with δ-type repulsion. We prove the existence of Bose condensation at sufficiently low temperatures, and hence of a phase transition in three or more dimensions. An estimate of the critical temperature is obtained.

A Correlation Estimate for Quantum Many-Body Systems at Positive Temperature

Robert Seiringer

We present an inequality that gives a lower bound on the expectation value of certain two-body interaction potentials in a general state on Fock space in terms of the corresponding expectation value for thermal equilibrium states of non-interacting systems and the difference in the free energy. This bound can be viewed as a rigorous version of first order perturbation theory for many-body systems at positive temperature. As an application, we give a proof of the first two terms in a high density (and high temperature) expansion of the free energy of jellium with Coulomb interactions, both in the fermionic and bosonic case. For bosons, our method works above the transition temperature (for the non-interacting gas) for Bose-Einstein condensation. 1

Large Deviation Estimates for Weakly Interacting Bosons

Simone Rademacher, Robert Seiringer

Abstract We study the many-body dynamics of an initially factorized bosonic wave function in the mean-field regime. We prove large deviation estimates for the fluctuations around the condensate. We derive an upper bound extending a recent result to more general interactions. Furthermore, we derive a new lower bound which agrees with the upper bound in leading order.

ON CONDENSATION IN NON-IDEAL BOSE GAS

Дмитрий Петрович Санкович

A model of the non-ideal Bose gas is considered. We prove the existence of condensate in the model at sufficiently low temperature. The method of majorizing estimates for the Duhamel Two Point Functions is used. The equation for the critical temperature and the upper bound for the one-particle excitations energy are obtained.

Phase Transitions in Systems of Interacting Fermions

S. Gartenhaus, G. Stranahan

Girardeau has shown that a particular class of variational approximations for the free energy of a Fermi-Dirac system may be expressed in terms of the exact free energy of a certain soluble "model Hamiltonian." This exact formula for the partition function associated with the model system involves the solution of a certain nonlinear integral equation, and in the present work it is shown in detail that there is a correspondence between phase transitions in the system and the existence of multiple solutions of this equation. The connection between the existence of phase transitions and the properties of the interaction is studied, and it is shown that these phase transitions may occur for a very wide class of interactions. It is established that there is an upper bound to the temperature, above which no phase transitions will occur at any density. The extension of these results to a classical and a Bose-Einstein system is indicated, and the lattice-gas model previously studied by Mermin is re-examined in the light of the present results.
