Spin polarons in triangular antiferromagnets

Matthias Vojta C

The motion of a single hole in a two-dimensional triangular antiferromagnet is investigated using the $t\ensuremath{-}J$ model. The one-hole states are described by strings of spin deviations around the hole. Using projection technique the one-hole spectral function is calculated. For large $J/t$ we find low-lying quasiparticlelike bands which are well separated from an incoherent background by a gap of order J. However, for small $J/t$ this gap vanishes and the spectrum becomes broad over an energy range of several t. The results are compared with self-consistent Born approximation calculations and numerical data.

Binding of holes and the pair spectral function in thet-Jmodel

Didier Poilblanc

Clusters of the two-dimensional t-J model with two holes and up to 26 sites are diagonalized using a Lanczos algorithm. The behavior of the binding energy with system size suggests the existence of a finite critical value of J above which binding occurs in the bulk. Only the d-wave pair-field operator acting on the Heisenberg ground state has a finite overlap with the two-hole ground state for all the clusters considered. The related spectral function associated with the propagation of a d-wave (singlet) pair of holes in the antiferromagnetic background is calculated. The quasiparticle peak at the bottom of the spectrum as well as some structure appearing above the peak survive with increasing cluster size. Although no simple scaling law was found for the quasiparticle weight the data strongly suggest that this weight is finite in the bulk limit and is roughly proportional to the antiferromagnetic coupling J (for J1).

Marginal-Fermi-liquid behavior of charge carriers scattered by two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations

Y. R. Wang, M. J. Rice, Han-Yong Choi

In the Wigner-Jordan (WJ) fermion representation of quantum spins with antiferromagnetic interaction, the WJ fermions always fill half of the total available states, and their energy spectrum possesses a particle-hole symmetry. These two intrinsic properties of the WJ representation, together with a finite density of states at small WJ-fermion excitation energy, give rise to the marginal-Fermi-liquid behavior of the charge carriers when they are scattered by the WJ fermions. The finite density of states of the WJ fermions at zero excitation energy is demonstrated for the defected quantum antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model in a square lattice.
