Successive reentrances and phase transitions in exactly solved dilute centered square Ising lattices

Abstract

We solve exactly several periodically dilute centered square Ising lattices by transforming the systems into eight-vertex models. We find that for a given set of interactions, there may be five transitions with decreasing temperature with two reentrant paramagnetic phases. These phases extend to infinity in the space of interaction parameters. Moreover, two additional reentrant phases are found, each in a limited region of phase space.

Exact phase diagram of a generalized Kagomé Ising lattice: Reentrance and disorder lines

M. Debauche, H. T. Diep, P. Azaria +1 more

We solve exactly a generalized Kagom\'e Ising lattice with three kinds of interactions by transforming the system into a 16-vertex model that satisfies the free-fermion condition. The phase diagram shows several interesting phenomena due to the frustration generated by the competing interactions: successive transitions with reentrance, partial disorder, and disorder lines. The reentrance region in the space of interaction parameters is found to be infinite, unlike previous exactly solved models. Two disorder solutions with interesting behavior are found.

Thermal first-order phase transitions, Ising critical points, and reentrance in the Ising-Heisenberg model on the diamond-decorated square lattice in a magnetic field

Jozef Strečka, Katarína Karľová, Taras Verkholyak +3 more

The thermal phase transitions of a spin-1/2 Ising-Heisenberg model on the diamond-decorated square lattice in a magnetic field are investigated using a decoration-iteration transformation and classical Monte Carlo simulations. A generalized decoration-iteration transformation maps this model exactly onto an effective classical Ising model on the square lattice with temperature-dependent effective nearest-neighbor interactions and magnetic field strength. The effective field vanishes along a ground-state phase boundary of the original model, separating a ferrimagnetic and a quantum monomer-dimer phase. At finite temperatures this phase boundary gives rise to an exactly solvable surface of discontinuous (first-order) phase transitions, which terminates in a line of Ising critical points. The existence of discontinuous reentrant phase transitions within a narrow parameter regime is reported and explained in terms of the low-energy excitations from both phases. These exact results, obtained from the mapping to the zero-field effective Ising model, are corroborated by classical Monte Carlo simulations of the effective model.

Two-dimensional XXZ -Ising model on a square-hexagon lattice

J. S. Valverde, Onofre Rojas, S. M. de Souza

We study a two-dimensional XXZ -Ising model on a square-hexagon (denoted for simplicity by 4-6) lattice with spin 1/2. The phase diagram at zero temperature is discussed, where five states are found, two types of ferrimagnetic states, two types of antiferromagnetic states, and one ferromagnetic state. To solve this model, we have mapped onto the eight-vertex model with union Jack interaction term, and it was verified that the model cannot be completely mapped onto eight-vertex model. However, by imposing an exact solution condition, we have found the region where the XXZ -Ising model on 4-6 lattice is exactly soluble with one free parameter, particularly for the case of symmetric eight-vertex model condition. In this manner we have explored the properties of the system and have analyzed the interacting competition parameters which preserve the region where there is an exact solution. Unfortunately the present model does not satisfy the free fermion condition of the eight-vertex model, unless for a trivial solution. Even so, we are able to discuss the critical point region, beyond the region of exact resolvability.

A spin-3/2 Ising model on a square lattice

N. Sh. Izmailian

The spin-3/2 Ising model described by the most general Hamiltonian with up-down symmetry, −βH=Σ〈ij〉{JS i S j +KS 2 i S 2 j +LS 3 i S 3 j +M/2(S i S 3 j +S j S 3 i )}−ΔΣi S 2 i , is investigated on a square lattice. It is shown that this model is reducible to an eight-vertex model on a surface in the parameter space spanned by the coupling constants J, K, L, and M. It is shown that this model is equivalent to an exactly solvable free fermion model along two lines in the parameter space. Consequently, the critical behavior and, in particular, the critical temperature for the second-order phase transitions of the model is found exactly.

Exact Solution Of The Ising Model On The 15 X 15 Square Lattice With Free Boundary Conditions

Seung‐Yeon Kim

The square-lattice Ising model is the simplest system showing phase transitions (the transition between the paramagnetic phase and the ferromagnetic phase and the transition between the paramagnetic phase and the antiferromagnetic phase) and critical phenomena at finite temperatures. The exact solution of the squarelattice Ising model with free boundary conditions is not known for systems of arbitrary size. For the first time, the exact solution of the Ising model on the square lattice with free boundary conditions is obtained after classifying all ) spin configurations with the microcanonical transfer matrix. Also, the phase transitions and critical phenomena of the square-lattice Ising model are discussed using the exact solution on the square lattice with free boundary conditions.

Cluster variation approach to the Ising square lattice with two- and four-spin interactions

Carla Buzano, Marco Pretti

The phase diagram of the Ising square ferromagnet with nearest-neighbor, next-nearest-neighbor, and four-spin (plaquette) interactions is investigated using the cluster variation method in the square approximation. A complete analysis in temperature is performed for the ferromagnetic, superantiferromagnetic, and frustrated region of the ground state. Particular attention is devoted to the role of the four-spin interaction. The most remarkable effect is the occurrence, in several regions of the interaction parameter space, of first-order transitions and sometimes reentrance phenomena. Critical and tricritical points are almost analytically determined.
