Abstract

The method of the fourth-order cumulant of Challa, Landau, and Binder is used together with the Monte Carlo histogram technique of Ferrenberg and Swendsen to study the order of the phase transitions of two-dimensional Ising systems with multispin interactions in the horizontal direction and two-body interactions in the vertical direction.

MONTE CARLO STUDY OF THE ORDER OF PHASE TRANSITION OF A MULTISPIN INTERACTIONS ISING MODEL

Zhang Guo-min, YANG CHUAN-ZHANG, 苏州大学物理系,苏州215006

The order of phase transition of a two-dimensional Ising model with m-body interactions in the horizontal direction and n-body interactions in the vertical direction in the m = 3, n = 3 case is of the first-order which is determined by our Monte Carlo algorithm, while in the m= 3,n=2 case the transition is of the second order.

Monte Carlo Study of the Order of the Phase Transition in Ising Systems with Multispin Interactions

Guo‐Ming Zhang, Chuan‐Zhang Yang

Abstract By analyzing the finite‐size behavior of the maxima of the specific heat near the phase transition temperature, the order of phase transition of two‐dimensional Ising systems with multispin interactions in the horizontal direction and two‐body interactions in the vertical direction are determined. The results strongly support the Turban conjectures.

Critical Binder cumulant in two-dimensional anisotropic Ising models

W Selke, Щур Лев Николаевич

The Binder cumulant at the phase transitions of Ising models on square lattices with various ferromagnetic nearest- and next-nearest-neighbour couplings is determined using mainly Monte Carlo techniques. We discuss the possibility of relating the value of the critical cumulant in the isotropic, nearest neighbour and in the anisotropic cases to each other by means of a scale transformation in rectangular geometry to pinpoint universal and nonuniversal features.

Fourth-Order Cumulants to Characterize the Phase Transitions of a Spin-1 Ising Model

Shan-Ho Tsai, Silvio R. A. Salinas

Fourth-order cumulants of physical quantities have been used to characterize the nature of a phase transition. In this paper we report some Monte Carlo simulations to illustrate the behavior of fourth-order cumulants of magnetization and energy across second and first-order transitions in the phase diagram of a well know spin-1 Ising model. Simple ideas from the theory of thermodynamic fluctuations are used to account for the behavior of these cumulants.
