Entangled states of atoms upon interaction with narrowband light

Abstract

The process of resonant interaction of light with two-level atoms in the absence of relaxation is considered. For a special form of initial conditions, simple and exact solutions are found that describe coherent processes leading to the appearance of many-particle entangled W -class states. These processes can be used for preparation and transformation of entangled states, in particular, for problems of quantum memory and generation of entangled atomic chains.

Origination of entangled states upon interaction of atoms with narrow-band light

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko, A. A. Rodichkina

Generation and transformation of entangled states in a system of two-level atoms with relaxation interacting with light are considered. It is found that excitation by single-mode squeezed light produces mixed atomic states that prove to be nonseparable. For the field in the Fock state, there may arise Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger states comprised of atoms and photons. On the basis of the exact solutions of the multiparticle problem, the generation and transformation of atomic states of the W class, including recording of the photon state, are discussed.

Multiparticle entanglement via resonant interaction between light and atomic ensembles

В. Н. Горбачев, Andrew I. Trubilko

Multiparticle entangled states generated via interaction between narrowband light and an ensemble of identical two-level atoms are considered. Depending on the initial photon statistics, correlation between atoms and photons can give rise to entangled states of these systems. It is found that the state of any pair of atoms interacting with weak single-mode squeezed light is inseparable and robust against decay. Optical schemes for preparing entangled states of atomic ensembles by projective measurement are described.

On preparation of the atomic W-states

В. Н. Горбачев, A. A. Rodichkina, Andrew I. Trubilko +1 more

We analyse possibilities for quantum state engineering offered by the resonance Raman type interaction of light with ensembles of two-level atoms taking account relaxation to prepare and control of entangled states. It is found that atomic entanglement of the W-class can be obtained during evolution of atoms interacted with a single mode squeezed light. Two schemes, involving projection measurements that result in multipartite W-like states, are introduced.

A method for the generation of entangled states via non resonant interaction of Ξ type three level atom with a coherent state cavity field is presented. It is shown that many type atomic entangled states can be obtained under a simple condition.

Entanglement and quantum memory with atomic ensembles

Summary form only given. A new approach to the problem of the quantum interface between light and atoms has been recently developed. The method utilizes free space dispersive interaction between pulses of light and spin polarized atomic ensembles. Entanglement between the polarization state of light and the collective spin state of atoms is established by measurement, more precisely by detection of light in a certain polarization basis. In the first demonstration of this approach we have generated a long-lived entangled state of two separate macroscopic atomic samples by a polarization measurement on light transmitted through the samples. We then have shown that this approach also works for mapping of a quantum state of light onto long-lived atomic spin state paving the road towards realization of the quantum memory for light. Recently we have also extended the free space light-atoms interface beyond the continuous variables in the proposal, where a coherent superposition "cat" state of an atomic ensemble is generated by a measurement sequence. Progress with other communication protocols such as atomic state teleportation and multiparty networks will be presented.

Generation of W State Via Two-photon Resonant Interaction between Atoms and Cavity Field

Deng-Yu Zhang

A simple scheme is presented for generating n atom W states with the two-photon resonant interaction between atoms and cavity field. In the proposed protocol,it is injected a two-level atom initially prepared in the excited state through the cavity prepared in the vacuum state. The other two-level atoms prepared in the ground state are injected into cavity.Because the interaction between the atoms and cavity field is resonant, the coupling strength can be relatively strong which will shorten the corresponding interaction time and thus reduce the effect of decoherence in experiment.
