Sub-poissonian Photon Statistical Character of the Excited k-boson q-coherent States

Jiang Jun-qin

The sub-poissonian photon statistical character of the excited k-boson q-coherent states a~(+m)_q|z,k,j_q(k≥3) is numerically studied. It is shown that the sub-poissonian photon statistical character is evidently dependent on m.When j = 0,the excited states(m≠0) can exhibit the sub-poissonian photon statistical character, but the unexcited states(m=0) cannot. When j≠0,both the excited states and the unexcited states can exhibit sub-poissonian photon statistical character. The sub-poissonian photon statistical character only appears in small x(x=|z|~2),which differs from the antibunching effect.

Generation of high frequency photons with sub-Poissonian statistics at consecutive interactions

A. S. Chirkin, A V Nikandrov

The process of parametric amplification at high frequency pumping, which is accompanied by optical frequency mixing in the same nonlinear crystal (NC), is considered. It is shown that if a signal wave is in a coherent state at the input of the NC, then the radiation with signal and summary frequencies can have sub-Poissonian photon statistics at the output of the NC in the deamplification regime. The Fano factors as functions of parameters of the problem are studied.

Characterizations of classical and nonclassical states of quantized radiation

Arvind, Narasimhaiengar Mukunda, Richard M Simon

A new operator-based condition for distinguishing classical from nonclassical states of quantized radiation is developed. It exploits the fact that the normal ordering rule of correspondence to go from classical to quantum-dynamical variables does not in general maintain positivity. It is shown that the approach naturally leads to distinguishing several layers of increasing nonclassicality, with more layers as the number of modes increases. A generalization of the notion of sub-Poissonian statistics for two-mode radiation fields is achieved by analysing completely all correlations and fluctuations in quadratic combinations of mode annihilation and creation operators conserving the total photon number. This generalization is nontrivial and intrinsically two-mode as it goes beyond all possible single mode projections of the two-mode field. The nonclassicality of pair-coherent states, squeezed vacuum and squeezed thermal states is analysed and contrasted to one another, comparing the generalized sub-Poissonian statistics with extant signatures of nonclassical behaviour.
