Phase Evolution of Coherent Light in a Simple Polariton Model

Abstract

We study the phase evolution behaviour of coherent light interacting with phonons initially in thermal equilibrium at temperature T in terms of phase distribution probability. It is shown that the phase not only shifts but also diffuses. The phase distribution broadens and narrows periodically with time. There is a threshold in the variation of the width of phase distribution as a function of coupling coefficient in the detuning case for fixed temperature. The phase diffusion changes rapidly with temperature for coupling coefficient above the threshold while it changes little with temperature for coupling coefficient below the threshold.

Pancharatnam phase in interaction model of light and phonon

Liming Zheng, Faqiang Wang, Songhao Liu +1 more

The Pancharatnam phase in simple polariton model is investigated, and the influences of temperature, coupling strength, frequency difference of photon and phonon and average photon number on the evolution dynamics of Pancharatnam phase are also discussed. The results show that the Pancharatnam phase oscillates with time, the oscillating frequency and wave-form vary with time, and the variation increases with the enhancement of temperature, coupling strength and frequency difference of photon and phonon. The system Pancharatnam phase evolutes regularly when the average photon number of coherent light is small, while it becomes more chaotic as the average photon number increases.

The time-revolution of the quantum fluctuation and the nonclassical statistical behavior for the polariton system

YU Xiao-min, Liang Guo-Dong, Yanhua Zhong +1 more

In this paper, we have considered the polariton system described by the model effective Hamiltonian involving a single-mode photon field interacting with a transverse optical phonon in a more realistic form. On this basis, the dynamical evolution of the polariton system, and the quantum fluctuation and the non-classical properties for this system have been investigated in an analytic form. By the nonlinear interactions of the system, when the radiation field was initially in the coherent state and the polarization wave field in the vacuum state, the radiation field and the phonon field can be developed to the squeezed state with time evolution and their second-order squeezing oscillates with time evolution in a complex periodical form. When k1=0 or k2=0, the squeezed effects do not occur. The non-classical properties are determined by the nonlinear coupling of the system and depend on the existence of the k1 and k2 terms simultaneously. At the same time, it is shown that the new results indicate that the statistical distribution of the photon and phonon can oscillate between super-Poisson and sub-Poisson distribution with time evolution, the nonlinear terms k1(a++) and k2(a+b++ab) have contributions to the non-classical statistical feature.

Influence of the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms on the phase properties of light

Tian Yong-hong, PENG JIN-SHENG, Dahai Xu +1 more

The time evolution and the statistic characteristic of the light phase in the Tavis-Cummings (T-C) model of two identical two-level atoms coupled to a strong coherent light field are studied by means of the Pegg-Barnett phase theory. It is proved that the dipole-dipole interaction between atoms will lead to the frequency shift of light, the weakening of the degree of atom-field coupling and the restraint of light phase diffusion.

Phase diagram of microcavity exciton-polariton condensates

Dinh-Hoi Bui, Van-Nham Phan

In this work, we study the exciton-polariton condensate phase transition in a microcavity matter-light system in which electron-hole Coulomb interaction and matter-light coupling effects are treated on an equal footing. In the framework of the unrestricted Hartree-Fock approximation applying the two-dimensional exciton-polariton model, we derive the self-consistent equations determining simultaneously the excitonic and the photonic condenstate order parameters. In the thermal-equilibrium limit, we find a condensed state of the exciton-polariton systems and phase diagrams are then constructed. At a given low temperature, the condensate by its nature shows a crossover from an excitonic to a polaritonic and finally photonic condensed state as the excitation density increases at large detuning. Without the detuning, the excitonic condensed state disappears whereas the polaritonic or photonic phases dominate. The crossover is also found by lowering the Coulomb interaction at a finite matter-light coupling. Lowering the Coulomb interaction or increasing the temperature, the excitonic Mott transition occurs, at which the exciton-polariton condensates dissociate to free electron-hole/photon. Depending on temperature and excitation density, the phase transition of the exciton-polariton condensates is also addressed in signatures of photoluminescence mapping to the photonic momentum distribution.

Thermal fluctuations in a system of microcavity exciton‐polariton condensations

Dinh‐Hoi Bui, Van‐Nham Phan

Abstract The exciton‐polariton condensation scenario in a microcavity matter–light system at finite temperature is investigated in the framework of the unrestricted Hartree–Fock approximation applying the two‐dimensional exciton‐polariton model. Treating electron–hole Coulomb interaction and matter–light coupling effects on an equal footing, we analyze the temperature influence on the excitonic and photonic order parameters. In the thermal equilibrium limit, the Kosterlitz–Thouless type phase transition of the exciton‐polariton condensation has been found. Depending on detuning and excitation density one finds that the system either favors the photonic or excitonic condensate. The effect of temperature on a crossover from a BCS‐excitonic to a BEC‐polaritonic condensed state then is discussed.
