Effective-potential expansion method for the many-body problem at finite temperatures. II. Application to a one-dimensional electron system with a repulsive δ-function interaction

Abstract

A one-dimensional many-electron system with a repulsive \ensuremath{\delta}-function interaction is studied by the application of the variational method developed in the preceding paper [Takada and Kita, Phys. Rev. A 42, 3242 (1990)] in order to illustrate its actual implementation. Our results on the grand potential, the entropy, and the specific heat are compared in detail with the exact ones that are calculated by the numerical solution of the coupled integral equations obtained by the Bethe ansatz.

One-Dimensional Electron Gas with Delta-Function Interaction at Finite Temperature

Minoru Takahashi

Integral equations which describe the thermodynamic properties of a one-dimensional electron gas with repulsive and attractive delta-function interactions are obtained. From these equations one can calculate the energy, entropy, magnetization, particle density and pressure at given temperature, magnetic field and chemical potential.

Statistical Mechanics of a One-Dimensional δ-function Bose Gas

Miki Wadati, Go Kato

Statistical mechanics of a one-dimensional system of bosons with repulsive delta-function interaction is studied. Explicit calculations of the partition function and the cluster integrals are carried out. The results coincide with those by the thermal Bethe ansatz (TBA) method. Thermodynamic quantities such as the pressure, the chemical potential and the energy are given both for large and small coupling limits.

Analytical results of the one-dimensional Hubbard model in the high-temperature limit

I. C. Charret, E. V. Corrêa Silva, S. M. de Souza +3 more

We investigate the grand potential of the one-dimensional Hubbard model in the high-temperature limit, calculating the coefficients of the high-temperature expansion $(\ensuremath{\beta}$-expansion) of this function up to order ${\ensuremath{\beta}}^{4}$ by an alternative method. The results derived are analytical and do not involve any perturbation expansion in the hopping constant, being valid for arbitrary density of electrons in the one-dimensional model. In the half-filled case, we compare our analytical results for the specific heat and the magnetic susceptibility, in the high-temperature limit, with the ones obtained by Beni et al. [Phys. Rev. B 8, 3329 (1973)] and Takahashi's integral equations, showing that the latter result does not take into account the complete energy spectrum of the one-dimensional Hubbard model. The exact integral solution by J\"uttner et al. [Nucl. Phys. B 522, 471 (1998)] is applied to the determination of the range of validity of our expansion in $\ensuremath{\beta}$ in the half-filled case, for several different values of U.

Two interacting fermions in a one-dimensional harmonic trap: Matching the Bethe ansatz and variational approaches

Diefferson Rubeni da Rosa de Lima, Angela Foerster, I. Roditi

In this work, combining the Bethe ansatz approach with the variational principle, we calculate the ground-state energy of the relative motion of a system of two fermions with spin up and spin down interacting via a delta-function potential in a one-dimensional (1D) harmonic trap. Our results show good agreement with the analytical solution of the problem, and provide a starting point for the investigation of more complex few-body systems where no exact theoretical solution is available.

Thermodynamics of trapped interacting bosons in one dimension

Shi-Jian Gu, You‐Quan Li, Zu‐Jian Ying

On the basis of Bethe ansatz solution of bosons with δ-function interaction in a one-dimensional potential well, the thermodynamics equilibrium of the system in finite temperature is studied by using the strategy of Yang and Yang. The thermodynamics quantities, such as specific heat, etc., are obtained for the cases of the strong coupling and weak coupling limits respectively.

Ground-state energy and density response of a one-dimensional fermion system with repulsive δ -function interaction

Seido Nagano, K. S. Singwi

The ground-state energy of a one-dimensional fermion system interacting via a repulsive $\ensuremath{\delta}$-function potential is calculated rigorously within the "ladder" approximation as a function of the coupling constant and the results compared with those given by the exact solution of Yang. Comparison with other many-body approximate theories has also been made. The density-density response function has also been calculated in an approximation in which the particle-hole interaction in the polarization bubble is taken into account to all orders. Results of this dynamic theory are compared with those of other approximations.
