Statistics of the electromagnetic field radiated in a two-photon process

Yu. M. Golubev

The statistical properties of the emission of a two-photon single-mode laser are theoretically analyzed in terms of quantum electrodynamics, using the kinetic equation for the electromagnetic field. It is found that in contrast to suggestions made by others, there is nothing unique in the properties of two-photon emission. Thus, the relative fluctuations of the numbers of photons in this radiation cannot be smaller than in coherent emission, and therefore two-photon emission in the form considered cannot be used to produce noiseless sources.

Effects of Dipole Interaction on Emission Spectra of Atoms in Two-Photon Processes

Zhenfei Luo, Zhizhan Xu, Lei Xu

We study the interaction of a pair of coupling two-level atoms with a single mode of the radiation field in an ideal cavity via two-photon resonant transition and/or degenerate Raman coupled processes. In particular, we consider the emission spectra for both two-photon processes. The effects of atomic coupling are analyzed and the properties of emission spectra for large photon number of the cavity-mode are discussed.

Quantum–statistical properties of radiation are studied under conditions of a nonlinear interaction between electromagnetic interfering fields and a relativistic electron beam, as well as under degenerate four-wave mixing. Conditions for the occurrence of photon bunching and antibunching, and of squeezed states are identified.
