High-Frequency Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen Entanglement via Atomic Memory Effects in Four-Wave Mixing

Abstract

Atomic memory effects occur when the atomic relaxation times are comparable to or much longer than the cavity relaxation times. We show that by using the memory effects, it is possible to obtain high-frequency Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen entanglement between a pair of Stokes and anti-Stokes fields in a four-wave mixing system. The physical origin is traced to the dynamical Stark splittings of dressed states due to the parametrically amplified fields. This mechanism provides an alternative and efficient way for sideband entanglement.

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen entanglement in bad cavity case

Yuan Sui-Hong, Xiangming Hu

This paper explores continuous variable entanglement in four-wave mixing when the atomic relaxation time is comparable to and longer than the cavity relaxation time. In this case the atomic memory is included in the field correlations and the entanglement in the output fields can be significantly enhanced. Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen (EPR) entanglement is achievable even in the bad cavity limit. This shows the EPR entanglement generation without need of good cavity.

Enhancement of Continuous Variable Entanglement in Four-Wave Mixing due to Atomic Memory Effects

Zhu Yu-Zhu, Xiangming Hu, Wang Fei +1 more

We explore the effects of atomic memory on quantum correlations of two-mode light fields from four-wave mixing. A three-level atomic system in Λ configuration is considered, in which the atomic relaxation times are comparable to or longer than the cavity relaxation times and thus there exists the atomic memory. The quantum correlation spectrum in the output is calculated without the adiabatic elimination of atomic variables. It is shown that the continuous variable entanglement is enhanced over a wide range of the normalized detuning in the intermediate and bad cavity cases compared with the good cavity case. In some situations more significant enhancement occurs at sidebands.

Two-mode entanglement of dressed parametric amplification four-wave mixing in an atomic ensemble

Zepei Li, Xiaoli Wang, Chenyu Li +4 more

Abstract We demonstrate the influence of dressed states on two-mode optical entanglement in a double Λ-type energy level atomic ensemble of parametric amplification four-wave mixing (PA-FWM) processes. By injecting a coherent or Einstein–Podolsky–Rosen field into PA-FWM channels, we investigate the corresponding entanglement. The quantum entanglement may be enhanced or suppressed via a bright state or a dark state. In free space, the two-mode entanglement is determined by nonlinear gain, which can be manipulated by field dressing in an atomic ensemble (i.e. Autler–Towns splitting, dressed enhancement/suppression of entanglement). However, in a ring cavity, the cavity dressing brings about the AT-like splitting of entanglement. Such an entanglement profile may be modified by field dressing through vacuum Rabi splitting, vacuum-induced enhancement and suppression of entanglement.

Generation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen-Entangled Radiation through an Atomic Reservoir

Susanne Pielawa, Giovanna Morigi, David Vitali +1 more

We propose a scheme for generating two-mode squeezing in high-Q resonators using a beam of atoms with random arrival times, which acts as a reservoir for the field. The scheme is based on four-wave mixing processes leading to emission into two cavity modes, which are resonant with the Rabi sidebands of the atomic dipole transition, driven by a saturating classical field. At steady state the cavity modes are in an Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen state, whose degree of entanglement is controlled by the intensity and the frequency of the transverse field. This scheme is robust against stochastic fluctuations in the atomic beam, does not require atomic detection nor velocity selection, and can be realized by presently available experimental setups with microwave resonators.

Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Energy-Time Entanglement of Narrow-Band Biphotons

Yefeng Mei, Yiru Zhou, Shanchao Zhang +5 more

We report the direct characterization of energy-time entanglement of narrow-band biphotons produced from spontaneous four-wave mixing in cold atoms. The Stokes and anti-Stokes two-photon temporal correlation is measured by single-photon counters with nanosecond temporal resolution, and their joint spectrum is determined by using a narrow linewidth optical cavity. The energy-time entanglement is verified by the joint frequency-time uncertainty product of 0.063±0.0044, which does not only violate the separability criterion but also satisfies the continuous variable Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen steering inequality.
