Dynamic Structure Factor for a Harmonic Oscillator and the Harmonic Oscillator Chain

Abstract

Abstract The recurrance relation method is employed to determine the dynamic structure factor for the single harmonic oscillator and a linear chain of harmonic oscillators. Approximative schemes based on this approach are proposed. Comparison is made with exactly known results (© 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)

Bosonization of dimerized Hubbard chains

Carmen Luminiţa Mocanu, Michael Dzierzawa, P. Schwab +1 more

Abstract The role of Klein factors is investigated for the bosonized Hamiltonian of the dimerized Hubbard model. Contrary to previous approaches we take into account their number changing property, i.e. we do not replace them by Majorana fermions. We show how to treat Klein factors in the framework of the self‐consistent harmonic approximation, both for finite systems and in the thermodynamic limit. (© 2005 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. The harmonic oscillator

Efstratios Manousakis

Abstract This chapter discusses the one-dimensional harmonic oscillator. It begins by discussing under what conditions the harmonic approximation can be used. It then transforms the Hamiltonian of the harmonic oscillator in terms of rising and lowering operators and then it finds its spectrum of eigenvalues and eigenstates.

One dimensional (1-D) harmonic oscillators revisited

Nilesh P. Barde, Pranav P. Bardapurkar

The concept of harmonic oscillator particularly one dimensional (1-D) is mentioned in literature repeatedly and is explained in more complex manner by using various methods. This creates difficulties in understanding the description of the concept for new learners. The purpose of this article was to enlighten different methods to formulate harmonic oscillator in improving knowledge about detailed steps to derive eigen energy values in more comprehensible manner for the beginners. The energy values are derived by using classical method, quantum mechanically, Schrodinger time independent equation, perturbation technique, variation method, WKB approximation etc. A coherent way of derivation of eigen values using various approaches makes this article as unique.

An explicit demonstration of integrability for the linear Heisenberg chain of N = 9 nodes

S. Topolewicz, Tadeusz Lulek

Abstract We propose the system of N – 1 = 8 mutually commuting operators which classify all eigenstates of the Heisenberg Hamiltonian for the linear magnetic chain of N = 9 nodes, each with the spin 1/2. These eigenstates, determined exactly by Bethe Ansatz and classified combinatorially by rigged string configurations of Kerov, Kirillov and Reshetikhin, can be also associated with the spectrum of this set of commuting operators. Quantum dynamics of damped and driven anharmonic oscillators

Michael J. Schrapp, Elena del Valle, Jonathan James Finley +1 more

Abstract We study various techniques to characterize the quantum states of a strongly dissipative system, namely, the an‐harmonic oscillator. One cannot directly access the quantum states themselves but only transitions between them. Various methods bring various advantages and inconvenients. We compare several observables under coherent and incoherent excitation. Incoherent excitation leads to huge broadening while coherent excitation quickly dresses the system at the energies required to access the excited states. Less perturbative methods such as four wave mixing appear to be superior but are, by construction, only usable for the lowest rungs. (© 2012 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)
