Exact classical stochastic representations of the many-body quantum dynamics

Evgeny Polyakov, P. N. Vorontsov‐Velyaminov

In this work we investigate the exact classical stochastic representations of many-body quantum dynamics. We focus on the representations in which the quantum states and the observables are linearly mapped onto classical quasiprobability distributions and functions in a certain (abstract) phase space. We demonstrate that when such representations have regular mathematical properties, they are reduced to the expansions of the density operator over a certain overcomplete operator basis. Our conclusions are supported by the fact that all the stochastic representations currently known in the literature (quantum mechanics in generalized phase space and, as it recently has been shown by us, the stochastic wave-function methods) have the mathematical structure of the above-mentioned type.We illustrate our considerations by presenting the recently derived operator mappings for the stochastic wave-function method.

Nonlinear quantum-stochastic model for the parameteric oscillator

Murray Wolinsky, H. J. Carmichael

The positive Prepresentation has proved a useful tool for analyzing optical systems which exhibit squeezing. The Glauber-Sudarshan phase-space representation gives a Fokker-Planck equation without positive semidefinite diffusion for systems which generate nonclassical fields. The positive Prepresentation provides a method for guaranteeing positive semidefinite diffusion and enables a quantum- dynamical model to be formulated in terms of classical stochastic differential equations. In previous work we had some success in applying this approach to describe the decay of the unstable state above threshold in a degenerate parametric oscillator.1 Below threshold a linearized analysis of fluctuations recovers the predictions of squeezing obtained by alternative methods.

Exact c -Number Representation of Non-Markovian Quantum Dissipation

Jürgen T. Stockburger, Hermann Grabert

The reduced dynamics of a quantum system interacting with a linear heat bath finds an exact representation in terms of a stochastic Schrödinger equation. All memory effects of the reservoir are transformed into noise correlations and mean-field friction. The classical limit of the resulting stochastic dynamics is shown to be a generalized Langevin equation, and conventional quantum state diffusion is recovered in the Born-Markov approximation. The non-Markovian exact dynamics, valid at arbitrary temperature and damping strength, is exemplified by an application to the dissipative two-state system.
