SOLUTIONS OF THE STAR-TRIANGLE EQUATIONS IN (Nα,Nβ) POTTS MODELS

Abstract

In this paper we present the solutions of the star-triangle equation for Boltzmann weights of the (Nα,Nβ) model. This model consists of two scalar Potts models (of Nα and Nβ states, respectively) coupled together by four-spin interaction terms and was introduced by Domany and Riedel to study the phase transitions in adsorbed thin films. If Nα,Nβ≠2, the star-triangle equations have nontrivial self-dual and non-self-dual solutions only for Nα=Nβ; whereas if Nα≠Nβ=2, we have other self-dual and non-self-dual solutions. After applying partial duality transformations several of our solutions can be identified with known solutions for Interaction-Round-a-Face (IRF) models. Our results also mean that our high-genus solutions found earlier are not the only solutions to the star-triangle equations in chiral Potts models with six or more states per site.

NEW SOLUTIONS OF THE STAR-TRIANGLE RELATIONS FOR THE CHIRAL POTTS MODEL

R. J. Baxter, Jacques H. H. Perk, Helen Au-Yang

Abstract We present new explicit N -state solutions of the star-triangle relations for a nearest-neighbour two-spin interaction model. The solutions include families with real and positive Boltzmann weights. They are given in terms of two rapidities associated with two lines, which cross through each edge. The rapidities are 4-vectors, restricted to lie on the intersection of two Fermat surfaces. The usual difference property is not present.

The Yang-Baxter Equation for the Chiral Potts Model and Integrable Parafermions

Zhao Zhang

A new type of Yang-Baxter equation (YBE) for $R$-operators depending on three spectral parameters is constructed from the star-triangle relation for the chiral Potts model. As the $Z_N$ symmetric generalization to the Ising model, its Boltzmann weights are known to depend on two variables describing a curve with genus larger than one for $N>2$, except for the self-dual point corresponding to the Fateev-Zamolodchikov chain. Combined with the fact that quantum Hamiltonians of edge-type models such as the Ising model contain both nearest-neighbor interaction and onsite potential terms, this leads naturally to an additional spectral parameter in the associated $R$-operator. The construction extends the edge-vertex correspondence of solvable lattice models, and provides a bridge between the Bazhanov-Stroganov four-parameter $R$-matrix---realized as an intertwiner of cyclic representations of $U_q(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ at a root of unity---and Shastry's two-parameter $R$-operator obtained from the decorated YBE.

CHIRAL POTTS MODEL: CORNER TRANSFER MATRICES AND PARAMETRIZATIONS

R. J. Baxter

We consider the star-triangle relation and the form of its solutions. We present some simple parametrizations of the weight functions of the three-state chiral Potts model. This model does not have the “difference property”: we discuss the resulting difficulties in attempting to use the corner transfer matrix method for this model.

Star-Triangle Relation for a Three Dimensional Model

Bazhanov, V V, R. J. Baxter

The solvable $sl(n)$-chiral Potts model can be interpreted as a three-dimensional lattice model with local interactions. To within a minor modification of the boundary conditions it is an Ising type model on the body centered cubic lattice with two- and three-spin interactions. The corresponding local Boltzmann weights obey a number of simple relations, including a restricted star-triangle relation, which is a modified version of the well-known star-triangle relation appearing in two-dimensional models. We show that these relations lead to remarkable symmetry properties of the Boltzmann weight function of an elementary cube of the lattice, related to spatial symmetry group of the cubic lattice. These symmetry properties allow one to prove the commutativity of the row-to-row transfer matrices, bypassing the tetrahedron relation. The partition function per site for the infinite lattice is calculated exactly.

Exact solution of Z(N) invariant spin models on a triangular lattice

Roberto Nicolau Onody, V. Kurak

Based on Baxter's ideas the authors present a method to solve spin models on triangular lattices. If the model has only nearest neighbour interaction and it satisfies the star-triangle relation then the exact free energy can be obtained. They apply the method to reobtain the critical triangular Potts model and to extend the self-dual Z(N) solutions of Fateev and Zamolodchikov to the triangular lattice.

Double potts chain and exact results for some two-dimensional spin models

M. A. Yurishchev

An exact analytical solution for the q -state Potts model on a 2×∞ ladder with arbitrary two-, three-, and four-site interactions in a unit cell in presented is a closed form. This solution is used to show that the finite-size internal energy equation [6] yields an accurate value of the critical temperature for the triangular Potts lattice with three-site interactions in alternate triangular faces. It is argued that the above equation is exact at least for self-dual models on isotopic strips.

A new type of Yang-Baxter equation (YBE) for RRR-operators depending on three spectral parameters is constructed from the star-triangle relation for the chiral Potts model. As the ZNZ_NZN symmetric generalization to the Ising model, its Boltzmann weights are known to depend on two variables describing a curve with genus larger than one for N>2N>2N>2, except for the self-dual point corresponding to the Fateev-Zamolodchikov chain.
